As far as I'm led to believe.....
It tailors the exhaust note to a certain... well.. note... :D
Similar to any baffles in a 'silencer' back box.
It's all in the design of the exhaust pipe...:D
There's a similar thing attached to the airbox at the front end... along with the funny shaped swirl pot thing for air intake.. it controls the noise level of the induction side of things, where the resonator will control the exhaust note (to a degree) :D
If I'm wrong.. no doubt someone will be along in a minute!
