Hey folks me again :blackeye:

Im trying to remove my front left wheel (to replace tyre) and it wont budge. Just came on here as a last resort to try and find out if any of you knew any tips/tricks/lifesavers to get the damn thing off.

I've tried pulling on it, kicking it from behind (not advised lol) turning the wheel to full lock and hitting it with a bit of wood (at the bottom - not the actual alloy itself), with full lock using my foot as a stopped from it touchin bodywork.. pulling on it to try and budge it...... all lead to NOTHING

ANY help would be much appreciated guys, as i HAVE to get the damn thing off :disapprove:

Cheers

have this problem a lot with our 4x4's can be a bugger however we have a big rubber hammer a few good hits and they come of when putting the wheel back on a wee bit copper grease around the bolts solves the problem for next time.;)

You have 2 options and it depends on what you are doing, if you're getting a new tyre on then simply take it to the garage and let them do it, but, if i suspect you are getting you're wheels treated then try this:-
Take it to your dealer and complain like mad
Or, jack the car up, get it on secure axle stands, spray the centre hub from the outside with some releasing agent, similar to WD 40, beware if you use WD40, it will dry out and add to your problems, leave it overnight and let the spray do it's work, then in the morning i'm afraid you're gonna have to try battering it off with a suitable hammer from the inside out.

If the worse comes to the worse then only heat will help, this ruins the wheel, so i expect you'll not want to do that.

I reckon the dealer is you're best bet

One trick we used to use at the garage was to simply loosen the bolts, reverse the car backwards and forwards slamming the brakes on

I must admit this is highly dangerous and should not be attempted if you are in any way unsure, damage to the wheel can occur

Aye, we get this a lot too on the rally car where we are changing wheels frequently. I'm assuming you have the wheel bolts/nuts removed and you still cant budge the wheel - It basically sticks around the centre hub as it is a very close fit. Gently wire brush any excess dry grime which collects here and on the inside area of the centre wheel hole (also use emmery cloth here where the wheel isnt laquered)and put a very thin smear of something like copper grease (ref,. Scottie)on the hub. This prevents the wheel sticking again. (technique is garage approved)

As for getting the wheel off in the first place, well its down to muscle.. Scottie is right that the other garage reccomended way is a little persuasion with a rubber mallet or similar but only strike the tyre. Do this at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and/or 3 and 9 o'clock positions and eventually it will come off with some heaving too!

Hope that also helps.

Cheers!

Thing is i cant drive it to the garage, as its flat... so i need to get it off.....

And i need a new rim as that one is dented (fking potholes) so cant just inflate it a bit :(

Will try these methods

Forget the easy approach, use the biggest hammer you've got, it's knacked anyway
Use the 6 o'clock method and rotate the wheel 90 degrees and hit the same 6 o'clock area

I went to the extreme approach and did ur loosen bolt and brake approach... worked a treat

thanks a lot man

I saw the dent in the back of wheel and defo where the damage has been done, tyre may be salvageable tho, ill get a pic of the wheel at some point

thanks again

Usually a good knock with the spare wheel will do the biz.

Beaten to it but the loosen wheel nuts and drive forwards/backwards trick was gonna be my recommendation  Steel and alloy - a lethal combination in the corrosion stakes!! :(

i had this problem.

Resolved it by parking the car next to a wall, then stood facing the wall with the problem wheel directly behind me, then executed a perfect horse style kick directly to the face of the wheel. It then dropped off.

Nah no decision made on the camera yet mate. I decided to read some reviews and take my time instead of rush buying like I always do. :)

I work in a garage and the way i do it, and it works all the time, Is with a bit wood against the back of wheel/tyre and get a BIG ass sledge hammer and slide it along the ground at the wood.(the wood is to save the alloy) one hit does it

i find that lowwering the car down off its jack with the nuts undone free's the wheel from the hub causes the car to drop a little and you have to be qwuick with the caa'n the handle of the jack to get it back up!!!
