View Full Version : Monsta Mo's last hurrah! Sunday 6th March

Monsta Mo Mini
27th January 2005, 11:13 PM
As some of you may know - due to a change of circumstances called Liam, I will be MINI-less after the Easter weekend.

For his wee swansong I've decided to organise one last run.

The date is Sunday 6th March, 10.30am for an 11am departure from Hermiston Gait at the end of the M8 on the west side of Edinburgh. Head down the A701 to Moffat for lunch and then back up through the Ettrick valley and back to Edinburgh via all manner of fun Borders roads.

Full run notes are available for DOWNLOAD HERE (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/downloads/borders_directions.pdf)

You'll need Acrobat Reader (http://www.adobe.com) to read the file

Lunch: I'm leaving everyone to sort that out for themselves. Packed lunch or one of Moffat's many hotels/tearooms. However, it is Mother's Day (something I didn't realise when I set the date) so a lot of the hotels are going to be busy - it would also explain why none of them would take a booking for 30+odd MINI drivers.:I

For those coming from the west, Craigd has arranged meeting at Stirling Services @ 09:30hrs for 09:45hrs departure for Edinburgh. Please notify him in the thread

You know you want to....

Bearing in mind the potentially crappy weather, do we have any contingency plans just in case?

How's about a couple of "organisers" Mobile numbers for the different meeting points that folks can call if they get delayed/snowed in etc - might save some confusion/worry on the day. Hopefully we won't need to bother, but It'd be useful for keeping tabs on road conditions and if anyone's in trouble.

Of course, we could always get Julz or one of the other "Big/Low MINIS" to go in front and clear the road, then there'd be no stopping us!

I've been keeping an eye on the weather forecasts aswell. We should be OK.

There may be a bit of snow lying about on some of the higher sections but as long as we drive to the conditions there shouldn't be any problems. I'll be posting the route for download tomorrow but this may be subject to change if the weather turns nasty.

You only have a chance of being the youngest on the run if your younger than 14. I doubt that! I think next up is 17 (Big Col and Bad Dog:D) , then a few before me (22) and I wouldn't like to guess the age of the older members. :D;):D;)

Calum, route looks great, especially the Innerleithen to Gorebridge section. Parking at the Devil's Beef Tub would need to be on the uphill straight, just before the beeftub, otherwise it's too many bends and not enough parking.
By the way, in answer to Borrisimo's question on age, am I the oldest participant, or does it just feel that way?:D:cool::evil:

AndyP & Lenore
4th March 2005, 05:58 AM
Calum, unless I'm mistaken, the Moffat to Selkirk road is actually the A708. Not the A703 as shown in the pace notes.

I may be wrong, it's happened before. :D

Route looks mighty fine, btw. Looking forward to it BIG TIME!:D:D

RAW NERVE SECTION BEGINS HERE... In answer to young Borrissimo's question......
AGE?? AGE!!! AGE!!!!! I don't belieeeeeeve it!
We don' wan' yoor steenkin' ageism!

It'd be a bit naff if people decided to go to runs based on the ages of those involved. I mean, if the average age is below 25, it's OK, but if it's over that, we're all old farts and they won't go?

We all love MINIS, I'm 42 and drove my first Mini before I was 20, so does that mean I'm too old, or that I'm a proper petrolhead? I don't wear a tweed bunnet or a back to front beige tartan baseball cap. It's a wooly hat actually, cos' I'm an old slaphead, and one who can't be ar*ed working out average ages...

Everyone's totally welcome, whether they're wee kids (who're allowed to bring a parent or two), if you're 18 or 80, all you need is enthusiasm (and a
sense of humour....sometimes), so let's ditch the “How old are you” routine before anyone gets ideas about euthanasia for the over-30's, or segregated runs based on your Date of Birth. My right foot's getting on a bit, but it can still floor a throttle pedal. Right, I'm off to stable my High Horse. Anybody seen my Werther's Originals? There's a joke there somewhere.

“Word Up”, as those Boyz in the Hood would say.... Yo! Happy @%*€#¢* Mutha's Day Y'all.

Borrisimo
4th March 2005, 06:31 AM
elfman...like it was mentioned earlier, "mental" age not "real age", by your comments I wud hav to say that atleast sum part of you is mental - if not your age :)

but my apologies if my so-called "ageism" offended u.

ELFMAN
4th March 2005, 06:02 PM
Sorry Borrisimo, I'm gonna get all pedantic and quote you here, you said:

“don't mean to be rude but whats the AVERAGE AGE of all the ppl on this cruise? as this is my first time don't know how OLD/YOUNG everyone will be and i don't wanna be the youngest person there”

No mention of “Mental Age” anywhere. As for my psycholological condition, well that's probably open for debate.

No real offence taken - and the “Steenkin' Ageism” was just a laugh - probably offended Mexicans though..... Apologias amigos.

Ok, for those of you that didn't know, just before Stirling services, my car had a wee splutter then all the pretty lights came on! It appears to be a problem with my exhaust emissions, so after a wee wait to let the sensor sort itself out, we were off again, only to conk out 2 miles later. So, a 45 minute wait with much cursing and swearing (not like me, I know!!:p) we trundled along towards Kincardine and went the scenic route home with the engine light shining brightly all the way!:evil:

Got home, built our trampoline (trampampoplyline for Ewan!!;)) went to reverse the car out of the garage and low and behold, no pretty lights!!:disapprove: She'll be dragged kicking and screaming to JC's next week though!!:dead::sleepy:

Hi folks! Was great seeing everyone yesterday and thanks for such an enthusiastic turn-out and making my last run a memorable experience. We even managed to get lost - but I've never been one for following instructions either! ;) Besides, it only make things more interesting, it's how I discovered these roads in the first place! Sorry you didn't make it Julz - hopefully see you soon though.

I've uploaded a compilation of some of the photos posted so far (Hope nobody minds but my camera is kinda difficult to use while driving). Watch this space for the upcoming movie. You can view the gallery by clicking here (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/border_05/index.html)

Thanks Calum for a most enjoyable day, it was our first run and it certainly wont be the last, even our kids had a brilliant day. They just wanted more jumps on the road to go over.
