View Full Version : Glen Livet/Lecht Run 6 Feb

14th December 2004, 02:14 AM
Oh Dear! Looks like a complete cock up on my part. It turns out the Glenlivet (and others) don't open on a Sunday during winter so instead of the distillery tour I'm going to extend the route up to the Lecht Ski Centre instead, sorry folks!

Starting place/time: - Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre @ 10.00am don't be late!!!

Looks like numbers are falling off a bit if the unconfimed aren't attending might add in a stop a Chez Bad Dog for a brew, what do you reckon???
There's a car park at the Holiday Inn next door to the AECC.... that's where we'll be.

http://www.aecc.co.uk/images/maps/aberdeen.gif

The spiced ;) up route, just added the coast road past Pennan and Gardenstown......:evil::D

Did a full reccie up until Dufftown and I have to say some off these roads are bloody fantastic :D, I've put stars by the best bits. Only downside to the reccie was I hit a kerb coming back through Glendronnach (I was driving mad) chipped the alloy big time! Fortunately I've got one on order and should be here in time for the run :D

Map to follow!

Start Aberdeen Exhibition Centre around 9.30 - 10am.
B999 to Pitmedden
A920 to Ellon
A946 to Auchnagatt, then Stuartfield and Old Deer via B9030.
A950 to New Pitsligo *
A98 towards Fraserburgh, then take B9032 to New Aberdour
B9031 to Macduff ****
A947 to Turriff *
B9001 to Glendronnach **
B9001, A97, B9117, A95 to Keith via Bridge of Marnoch and Strath Isla
A96 to Fochabers and Baxters for lunch. MMMM! Pancakes :D
A96 back to Keith
A95 to Dufftown via Craigallachie **
B9009 to Tomintoul *
A939 to Lecht Ski Centre

The end!!!

Following an offline discussion with Nenah regarding the amount of time between this and the last Aberdeen Run I've decided to organise this: -

Date: - to be agreed - late Jan but maybe put back if there's bad weather.

The route: - Exhibition Centre to Turriff via Kingseat, Newmachar, Oldmeldrum and Fyvie.

At Turriff a stop at coffee shop/BDMs house depending on numbers.

Followed by Huntly via Glendronnach, Dufftown and ending up at Glenlivet for a tour of the distillery. Any interest?

Yep, up for this one so please put my name down too!! Happy to help with run sheets and the like if you need a co-event organiser.

Paul,

Sorry mate, I think the revised route is a bit too much for us to do (360+ miles with the kids onboard)

Hope it turns out proper and you all have a great day out, remember to get lots of pix just to sicken us. We might try and make the start just to say hello and goodbye! and get some pictures of our own.

Cheers!

Scott

The Dogfather

Scott - Oh crap, never thought of those treking up from down south when I added the extra bit to the Lecht. I was going to say come as far as Baxters at Fochabers as the pancakes are fine, but that's still 340 mile round trip from Fife. It's that 180 mile round trip from Fife to Aberdeen that's the killer.

It's a shame because the roads are fantastic perhaps the next one we can come down to you? BTW it still all depends on the weather as it's supposed to turn cold again on Friday, I don't fancy doing the run in the snow.

Actually, I think that might be more of a goer mate! We could leave a bit later on and just try and meet up at Fochaber then just beat the retreat back down the road, it'll be a good excuse for a day out in the mini.

Scott - I reckon we'd be there about 12.30pm - 1pm.

Is it the start time from Aberdeen? I only ask because the best roads on the run are along the coast between New Aberdour and Macduff, fantastic hairpins and views of the coast. Mind you the A95 between Keith and Craigallachie is pretty cool as well, as is Turriff to Glendronnach and the run up to the lecht from Tomintoul.

I spent a lot of time finding the twistyest roads :p;)

We never put them in the headrest, but we got them a portable dvd player each for xmas - even with that though, I wouldn't put the kids in the car for 360+ miles.

Nevermind mate, we're looking forward to seeing everyone at Baxters!

how long would it take from our place to turriff:question:

The Dogfather
1st February 2005, 06:28 AM
Depends on how fast you drive:p

Autoroute reckons about 2.5 hours but that's at quite slow speeds all depends on traffic.

I've done Scrabster (Thurso) to Turriff in 3hours but the roads were fairly quiet.
