I know one moment of madness results in months of planning:disapprove::disapprove:

Not good news Im afraid people ferry prices:

January, February, March, November, December

Car + driver £190
Add pasenger £32
Cabin £50
Total £272

April, May, June, Sept, October (Christmas + New year)

Car + driver £242
Add pasenger £43
Cabin £70
Total £355

July, August

Car + driver £263
Add pasenger £53
Cabin £78
Total £394

there are recliners like aeroplane seat which is cheaper only a lot less comfy, Ill find out prices for these later.

As for digs I still have to find out, probobly around £20-£30.

A friend at work was in Shetland last week, their flight couldn't land and they ended up getting transferred to the ferry. The airline seats weren't to his liking, uncomfortable and it was too bright to sleep - he ended up on the cinema floor.....

For better info on time tables and fares take a look at www.northlinkferries.co.uk
It would be cheaper if you decide to share cabins

Hi All

Long time no see to some familiar names.

Anyway something that struck me was that the prices of the ferry to Shetland are not that much less than the Zeebrugge ferry...

Now a mini run Rosyth to ????

My dad just moved to France yesterday, so we could all go and visit him (tradesmen especially as he's rennovating 2 houses):D:cool:

Well I thought I would resurect this thread to see if there is any interest in this run.
I was thinking about later in the year next year say September, at least it'll give folk time to save.
I was thinking of making it a weekend trip leave Aberdeen on Friday nights boat landing in Lerwick on Saturday morning then making our way up to Skaw (Via two more ferry trips)the most northerly point in the british isles for a group photo stopping off at the Midd Brae Inn for a slap up lunch and possible Quiz on the way. Over night stay on Unst then head back down to the mainland (Shetland) for a cruise to the south of the island to see Jarlshoff Viking setlment and a meal in the Sumbourgh hotel and then back up to Lerwick for the boat back to Aberdeen which will get you all back to the mainland for Monday morning.
I still have to find a map on the net that I can lay a route down on ( any help on sites would be appreciated cheers), and I plan to do a recce next month to take a few pics to temp you all (or frighten you all off as it will be november ;))
Cheers Richard

:D Nice to see this one resurrected, well done Richard
I'd certainly still be interested (time and dates permitting) but your proposal for September '04 sounds like a good time of the year to go for it.

Your outline plan sounds great Richard  I think you could pretty safely count me and the Stouff in :)

Did Outer Hebrides last year and it was fantastic. Roasds all to ourselves. So as we haven't been to the Shetlands, this one seems a must. Put us down subject to dates.
I also like the suggestion of Zeebrugge!!! Been thinking about that one for a while.
Might be able to con Sioban into thinking she's going on a "Cruise"

Cheers Wul makes complete sense to me,
Only thing is that it isn't Skaw in Whalsay but Skaw in Unst.
I've been trying to use mapquest but it doesn't seem to recognise the post codes up here (probobly me as im not very good on these things)
I was also considering taking in the west side Aith and Walls

Richard - give me the poscodes youve got for the route and i'll see if autoroute does it any better.

www.multimap.com was always helpful before i got auotroute installed.

bingo! http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=465000&Y=1217500&width=700&height=400&client=public&gride=&gridn=&keepicon=false&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&scale=25000

Richard - i think if you plan the route in multimap you might have more luck.

We might be maybe's too. Was talking about it on the way up to Shetland, might make it the start of a wee holiday to the islands next year. We did say after all the time sitting on planes this year that we would stay more local....and ferries are always fun !?!

I'd have thought that summer would be a better time but for the cost. Weather likely to be better - not so many gales.
Imagine driving around at midnight and still not dark.

Bringing it back in to the spot light:D

I have made up window fliyers and are in the process of spreading the word.

I will make a concise effort after Up-Helly-Ah on Tuesday to finalise things.

Any sugestions on dates that would be good for people?

It may not be all bad news on the fare prices, I'm one of the organisers of the Shetland Classic Motor Show - our bi-annual show is on again this June. Depending on the numbers/dates involved it may be possible to organise a 'group discount' - it may not be much but every little helps.

Fontal

Nice to see you back on line Mark

Just to let every one know both my self and Mark have been flyering all the MINI's we've seen for the past week so there might be some new members shortly (hopfully).

Now that we've both sobered up after up-helly-aa I shall now make a conserted effort to do something :blackeye:

Looks great place for a run from the air (fly out to the Brent Field from there ) with many twisty roads all over the palce (and sheep )!!! and should be on the 'places to visit' list of any mini owner

It certainly is a great place for a run it's just very exspensive to get to and from here:(

I'll have to look in to prices for the earl part of next year.
