Hi Folks

Warning: Useless non-technical female questions to follow:

Its time to get a whole new set of rims and tyres, suspension and discs/pads fitted (I can hear my bank manager going into cardiac arrest somewhere...!) - something a little bling - but I'm a little new to these technicalities/bits and bobs.8)

I've read all the threads on Run Flats v Non-RF arguements - so I'm sticking with the Yoko's which I currently have in situ (with the goop).

So your opinion/advice on what is THE best, referrals for fitting (non-dealer preferred), current good deals you may know about - and most importantly, what would look the bloody ants pants on my Black MSC BBR - would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation! :D:D

Nenah :)

PS: I'm getting the plastic arches sprayed in 2 weeks time...wheyhey!!

I'm slightly biased towards the Technomagnesia F1 Detroit (http://www.mini2.com/gallery/personal/Bonnie Scotland/ap_racing_caliper.jpg)

What else are you thinking of upgrading?? Brakes and Suspension

I quite like Kinghorns wheels.

You'll need a trip out to Turriff to look at the Turriff Tyre showroom, they're only open during the week and Saturday mornings though. What you doing with the other sets you've got?

Yeah, I like your alloys - similar to what I have at the moment (obviouly without scraes and dents!) What brand is your brake conversion - I think the red pads would look schmick on my black S.

Suspension needs upgrading too. Suggestions?

John suggested I check them out too - he's made a few enquiries for my winter wheels - so I'll make some time to get up there next week and see whats on offer in the showroom, as I'm told its cheaper to get alloys AND tyres together. Thanks! :D

Wouldn't chrome 18's look the dogs bits on a BBR!! Although I have been told in the past to avoid chrome for 2 reasons..
*Its apparently tacky (i dont think so)
*Because of all our wet weather, they are not very durable and look worn quickly
*Because it makes me envious!! :p:p:p:D:D

Ok so thats 3 reasons...

I wanted to get big bad charcoal alloys but when i tried it in photoshop it didn't suit my car colour. It would look :mad:MEAN:mad: with a black car though!!!!!!

Sleepy, you found em!!!!

I believe Leccy - the guy doing the group buy bought a few extra sets with then intention of selling them on because we needed to get the numbers up to even get them made. Also west tuning and a few other big companies bought them to sell on as well.

The wheels have finally arrived in the UK and I should be getting mine next week :)

If you like them Nenah it might be worth posting in the thread on Mini2 to see what the availability is. The only worry I have about them is that originally only 4 sets were made - of which the one set that was in private hands has just been trashed in an accident (check out Tony*T3's thead on Mini2), on top of that we have had 40 odd sets made for the group buy - which means they are quite rare, and if you trash one you could be stuffed.

Wouldn't mind a set of them myself, shame as there's no way I'd get that past Jackie!

Nenah, have a look at the After market wheel gallery (http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35500) - might give you some ideas for some cool rims for Winnie. Bonnie Scotlands car even gets a snapshot ;)

Whew, what a lot of cleaning up posts

Anyway, Nenah, the AP Racing big brake conversion is possibly the cheapest one there is whilst maintaining sooperb stopping ability, i also think the red would look pretty good.

As for suspension, go for the Spax coil overs, fully adjustable height and damping, a bit of a pain to set up, but, they are excellent :approve:

MartinSullivan
20th November 2004, 09:38 AM
http://www.mini2.com/gallery/personal/zoooooom/picture_002_thumb.jpg <---AP Racing definitely the way to go , will look cool against your car

You can get the AP Kit from MiniSport AP Racing Kit (http://www.minisport.com/new-mini-shop/products/stopping-power/large-brake-conversions/ap-formula-big-brake-kit-product.html).

If you are spending that much money it may be worth joining the Privilege Scheme (http://www.mini2.com/privilege/) over on Mini2 and buying from suppliers that are involved in it

I have bought the fully adjustable Spax coilovers - the same as Bonnie, just not had chance to fit them yet. Have always had them on my classics though, definitely the way to go :D

I joined the MINI2 privelege scheme and got a very nice £50 saving on the coil overs, take away the £10 joining fee i saved £40
If you are considering all the mods then you should sign up and take the benefit

Nice Wheels :D

Nanah,

I think buying Alloys is a very personal hard choice to make.

Is it multi spoke or five spoke or deep dish.

I've bought a few and I'm not just talking mini. Infact you should see my garden and the garden sheds they are full of Alloys.

I've had chrome wheels and while they do look good they are a hassle.

The trouble is you need to so careful re fitting the tyre on to rim no air guns on the bolts etc because if you so much as ding a wee bit the salt gets under the chrome and its goodbye nice looking wheels.

OZ MOMO BBS or ANTERA are all good wheels at a affordable price.

Split rims are more expensive as are forged.

At the end of the day it's what you like and at price youre willing to pay.

Well that's what I think anyway.:)

Ok, so far guys from your opinions/advice and my resarch these are on the list:

Rims: Either 18" Oz Mons or 18" Technomagnesia F1 Detroit - I agree with you ScottieC, alloys are a very a very personal choice, just wanted some guidance!
Tyres: Sticking with the Yokos - Only 2 new needed as vought 2 in August
Brakes: AP racing Calipers kit/red pads
Suspension: To be decided...red springs tho.
Color Coding: plastic trims to be sprayed black.

...Winnie will be looking F.I.N.E by Christmas 04.

Well guys, I'm cashed up and ready to go = All I need to know now, is where to buy from!?!?

Wheels + Tyres = Performance Alloys (http://www.performancealloys.com/)
Suspension + Brakes= Mini Speed (http://shop2.minispeed.co.uk/new_mini/index.cgi?task=index)
You will need front wheel spacers if you go for the big brake kit

I looked for red suspension springs and couldn't see any, Spax are yellow

If you do go to Mini Speed get yourself signed up with the MINI2 privelege scheme and save yourself a bit of money

Just joined mini2 member privelege scheme - thanks for the tip. ;)

Tyres: Yoko Pradas (which have superseeded the 539'series I believe?)

Rims: Breyton Magic Racing 18" w/stainless lip :D

Brakes: Brembo Gran Turismo Brake Kit - red calipers- and slotted rear rotors :D

Techie type question, how many pots (not the kitchen variety :I) do your brembo's have
Reason for asking is, if they have 10, then be prepared for contsant bleeding of the system :(
But, still very very nice :p:cool:

Yeah, I read about this whilst undertaking my research and I had a conversation with the mechanic before ordering - so we've avoided that mistake - going with 6 pots but thanks for the heads up! :D

Yep, you were right Scottie! Had them fitted yesterday and new rims and tyres look A-W-E-S-O-M-E! :p Plus the Yoko's have made a HUGE difference to handling, grip and ride comfort - I've been pushing her around bends and corners flat-out and no slip or spins like before just lots and lots of fun fun fun!! :D:D

I guess what I'm trying to say is money well spent even if it hurt the bank balance (beans on toast 4 me 4 rest of month!) ;)
