Very interesting, wonder if mini are going to be setting the benchmark for the fastest electric hot hatch. I really hope this does actually lead to something though.

Mini does have form of making very cool electric cars and then them never appearing there was the electric R56 challange car and the E race coupe

Hope it has a boost in range to match the performance. Not sure I can make sense of an electric GP with a limited range as is the current electric model

So the standard SE range should be fine

I’m surprised that a JCW version of the E hasn’t been spotted with a far better range, rather than messing about with a GP version.

Interesting, however, as Scott says they will need to get a better battery in there.. one flat out go will use the range. They could just be using a spare GP shell to try out the electric parts, testing it for a JCW. I do like the yellow brakes though haha how cool would it look with all the red bits yellow!

It could just be the engineers having some fun - and who could blame them.

As others have said, MINI would need to address the range issue before they start looking at upping the performance capabilities.

Managed to find the official BMW release including pictures and a video. The BMW article leads more to a JCW-E than a GP-E. In the video you’ll notice that the car has HUD what is missing from a F56 GP.

It's on pistonheads news this morning as well

My gut feeling is this won't go into production as a GP-E, I suspect a combination of low range, increased price point and a small target market would rule that out from a sales perspective.

It does serve as a very useful promo machine for MINI and BMW though and as a test bed for a future JCW-E, which I imagine will come around with the F56's successor.
