NMS Run 6th September

[Track Ali]

Following the success of our first "post-lockdown" event, we thought we'd organise another MINI adventure!

This time we'll take in a flying visit to Drumlanrig Castle and a scenic drive through the beautiful Leadhills, before finishing with a trip along the Moffat-Selkirk road (considered one of the best driving roads in Scotland).

Start time & Location: 10am for a 10:30 start at Abington Service Station, ML12 6RG.

Lunch Stop: Abington Service Station, ML12 6RG.

End Time & Location: Around 4pm at Tesco, Galashiels, TD1 3AT

We'd like to stress that this remains a provisional date for now pending the continued suppression of Covid-19 and the relaxation of lockdown restrictions.

To help us gauge interest, please let us know below if you'd like to attend and whether any passengers would be likely to attend with you. An indication of numbers will let us plan more accurately within the scope of any continuing restrictions.

Additional Notes

The Service Area was pretty busy yesterday when we visited. (Granted, it was a bank holiday Monday.) Depending on the weather, I'd strongly recommend folks bringing a packed lunch in order to avoid waiting times for food at the service area. There were no queues for the toilets.

I'm also not sure whether some of the roads have been downgraded (since our last visit) from dual-lane to single-track or whether they're just awaiting line painting. With that in mind, please be extra cautious and considerate when passing any oncoming traffic.

Finally, we may need to complete the first part of our trip in reverse, depending upon road works. Roadworks are scheduled to take place this week on some of the roads. While the roadworks are scheduled to be finished in plenty of time for our run, there is every possibility that they may not. If so then this will be communicated clearly before the run begins.

A great drive today and an excellent route. Loved the roads and the scenery. Our thanks also to Ali and Laura.
Maybe the prat in the corsa will buy a mini and join the club since he was so determined to be up front of us all lol. Absolute nutcase... Thought he was going to go head on into a motorbike at one point. Looking forward to the next run:thumbs up:

Well I got home very late last night and was into work very early this morning so I've not had a chance to get on.

Massive thanks to Ali and Laura for being so accommodating, excellent hosts, would recommend to a friend.

The run was great fun and we got excellent weather for it. Was good to see some new faces on the run as well it's been quite a while since I've managed to get to an NMS since moving for university and then Covid. But it felt great being back amongst my MINI family.

Hope to get down to another run before the weather starts getting too cold.

Hi Guys, for various reasons it’s ages since I’ve been on site, but popped in today and thought “that’s a great run, I’ll sign up!” Then noticed it was YESTERDAY! What a numpty. I was out in my garden replanting a maple tree yesterday... Glad you all had a great time (Larkhall to Drumlanrig via Leadhills & Wanlockhead is one of my fave runs in the Mini or MGB) and that everybody’s safe & well. I’ll try to keep up with events better in future! TTFN.

ps I’ve been watching ‘Bangers & Cash’ which is based around Mathewsons Classic Car Auctions in Thornton Le Dale! Many of us have wandered up to check out their showroom when we’ve stopped for ice creams etc. Great to see some of our old Yorkshire haunts.
