View Full Version : Bakewell Tour - The retake - Cancelled

Let’s try this again! 2021 is hopefully the year!
Location: Peak District
Dates: Tuesday 4th - Friday 7th 2021
(Note: I have copied over the information from previous thread - in case anyone new is checking this out)
The place I’ve found is a self catering converted village pub, there are 17 bedrooms over the 4 cottages on the grounds, we have secure parking for approx. 20 cars, an outside area with enough space for 34 people along with a BBQ. They have a bar area with a pool table and darts board - I can see Crombers all over the bar already.
The price would be £250 per room, if all 17 rooms aren’t filled then the price would go up slightly to compensate. The £250 would include a BBQ one night (the food would be provided we need to cook it lol) I’d need an non refundable deposit of £75 as we need to pay part to secure the place.
Link to the place - https://www.peakvenues.co.uk/venues/...-harpur/#about
The rest is to be paid no later than 12 weeks before so the remaining £175 would be need to be paid to me no later than the end of January however, I’ll accept payment of the remaining £175 at any time up to that point. I don’t want to be asking for lots of money just after Christmas so if it easier to pay in October for example I’m happy for that.
With regards to the self catering, I’d ask for an amount (£10) per person and would get bacon / sausages / rolls / fresh juices etc for the kitchen. Myself and Christina have already said we would be happy to cook the bacon and sausage rolls for breakfast and I’m sure others would help. It would be BYOB with alcohol and juice, I’ll remind you all closer to the time.
Myself and William plan on going down at some point and working out routes etc and provide an intinary closer to the event.
So who wants to go?

Well in the interests of a Healthy Heart Regime, I’m limiting it to a quarter bottle on my Sugar Puffs during Lockdown... with a pint of Buckfast.
Seriously though, I haven’t had ANY bevvy since February! Being “Home Alone” I thought I’d give it a body swerve till I can enjoy it in some good company!

Stay safe folks & let's all look forward to happier days

It’s certainly a bummer not getting away for our annual trip away and I’m definitely going to miss all our laughs and carry on that we would have had but at least we’ve got next year to look forward to.

Definitely a bummer not getting away - especially when the weather is like this. Getting into the spirit of it at home...

Just thought I'd 'stir' the thread to see if we can add to our numbers next year.
Speaking with the Mods yesterday regarding the Bakewell Tour it would appear that we have one space available (correct me if I'm wrong Megan). Yesterday's run saw a good number of new faces which was fantastic to see & maybe this superb trip will be of interest to some :thumbs up:

We have two potentially three spaces available. Have a read over the ‘Heartbeat Tour’ threads to see what this would be about. Obviously different roads but would give you an idea of the set up. Could also consult the ‘Bakewell’ thread that was meant for this year.
Great cars, great company and great barman haha

When is the last available date to book on this? With all the Covid upsets my rota for 2021 is not yet finalised.

There’s no real end date on the spaces, it’s first come, first served type thing so just let us know when you know. [emoji108]

Just to keep everyone upto date. We are planning to go back down Feb/March time to redo the route, incase of any major changes or we find better roads and also get the activities all sorted and booked. Hopefully the weather is better this time.

Hi folks, with everything still a bit up in the air coronavirus wise, and with not a lot to do except watch hours of telly, I’ve been catching up on stuff I’ve recorded. With great memories of our fab NMS Yorkshire trips, there are 2 programmes I really enjoyed which reminded me of some of the great times we’ve shared. I’m sure they’ll be available on catch-up or YouTube etc.
“Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out” Series 1 Episode 3, with lots of beautiful Yorkshire scenery and a few of our old haunts.
“Bangers & Cash” Series 3 Episode 9, of course Mathewson’s auction place is in Thornton Le Dale, which we know well, but this episode also features the brilliant ‘Scarborough Fair’ where we’ve spent some quality time hanging on to various fairground rides for dear life!
Just thought you might enjoy having the old memories rebooted while we wait with everything crossed for our next MINI Adventure.

We will be pleasantly surprised if we make our trip. The dates announced by BJ would indicate that we are just going to miss out. So disappointing but never say never.
Then again NS 'may' spring a surprise later today .......... doubt it though

Well that statement was ........ vague
5th April it is, so stay at home for another 9 weeks!! Canny believe that level 3 isn't attainable asap
It feels that England will soon be having a party & we'll still be told to stay in our rooms & think about what we have done!!

Thanks William. I just had my first vaccination yesterday, which was handled brilliantly by the NHS Nurses, Staff & Volunteers at one of my local health centres, what a great bunch of people. I get my 2nd one 3-12 weeks from now, so I’m hopeful for myself and the rest of us that we’ll be a lot “safer” in the next few months, but like Crombers I’m not counting my chickens as to whether things will be opened up enough for our trip in May. I have to say I’d also have to make a personal decision whether I was comfortable with the situation at the time. I’m still really hoping we can do it and we’re usually praying for Spring to arrive, but May is unfortunately maybe going to arrive too soon this year...

Evening, received an email from the company today to say they where working their way through all guests due to stay at any of their locations in date order, they didn’t take long to get back to us last time so should have it sorted by the beginning of the week. Fingers crossed!
Hope your all well and keeping out of mischief and as always when we know anything you will too

Some Scottish numbers (courtesy of travellingtabby.com) that keep me sane & hopefully open up the possibility of us getting away
27/1 - Covid cases in hospital 1871, in ICU 145
27/2 - Covid cases in hospital 824, in ICU 74
that's an overall drop of 55%
27/1 - 1330 new cases & today it's 525
The vaccines are absolutely destroying Covid :thumbs up:

Agreed the vaccination programme is starting to have an impact and it’ll continue to grow as time goes on, but the reduction in figures (after the post-Christmas ‘Boom’) is also due to the severe restrictions we’re all under and will be for a while yet. The combination of the vaccines and everybody behaving themselves is what will get us out of this sh*tstorm. I’m not being a Party Pooper, having been on my tod and mostly in the house for almost a year I’m going stir crazy so believe me I want this over ASAP and the vaccines are our Great Escape, but I think we’ll still have to be patient. If we don’t want more Patients.

So good news and bad news... I’ll give you the bad news first, Bakewell is officially cancelled :(
Good news... we’re getting a full refund! Whoop, with that in mind can all involved please PM with their preferred bank details or PayPal details or preferred method of refund and we’ll get the money paid back to you ASAP
Thanks :)

That’s a proper shame. I was being cautious because I’m just like that, but I’m genuinely sad to hear the news, especially after all the work you guys have done. Getting a refund is good, but it’s a shame for us, and also for the businesses affected by this, it must be horrendous for them. Thanks for all your efforts and hopefully 2022 will see us having a week in great scenery and even greater company.

It’s a great shame that we won’t be getting our trip away again this year but we do have Crombers and Karen’s Highland Tour in August that I think has more chance of being achievable due to it still being in the country and a bit further down the line. I still have the Bakewell T-shirt’s etc and I’ll get these out to everyone when I see them or can arrange to get them posted out

Genuinely greetin at the decision. Having worked at the 'coal face' throughout the pandemic, I really needed to feel a sense of freedom was in sight. What an absolute downer!!
Cheers for all your work and organisation & hopefully one day we will see, feel & enjoy this establishment.

On a (sort of) lighter note, St. Johnstone footy club, who just won the League Cup for the first time at an empty Hampden Park on Sunday, had special commemorative mugs made for the fans, bearing the legend “I Wasn’t There”, which I thought was a pretty good way of trying to find humour in an otherwise negative situation. We should all put our Bakewell T-Shirts away safely and proudly wear them next year if we manage to rearrange the trip. For those who know it, it’ll be like Ken Bruce’s “Popmaster” quiz on Radio 2 - “One Year Out!”.
Fingers and most other parts crossed for the Highland Tour! Stay safe everybody, Freedom, or at least a version of it, is on the horizon.

Will the venue still be considered in future (if they are still in business) ?
Very much so, the place looked great and they have been great to deal with, so no reason why we can’t use them in the future.
