I know, it was yesterday, but I thought I'd mention it, since it's the new kid on the block, at our new venue, TECA. And since I think
it would be a great show for NMS to have a stand at. :thumbs up:

I was there with Aberdeen Minis, but we got let down by a few no-shows, so had 3 classics, an F56 JCW and me in the Clubby.

Yesterday saw something like 800 cars, using part of an exhibition hall, and the underground car park, with 8000 visitors.

Was a good day, only spoiled slightly by a few cars bouncing off the rev limiters, despite one of the show rules stating no engines
running during the day. And before you say I'm a grumpy old git, which I am, the noise being mostly underground wasn't good,
especially for the small children. Rules are rules!

This is/was one of the main problems with SCS the last few years - did anybody try and stop them did you notice?

I can imagine a car popping and banging in an enclosed space like that would be really annoying.

The organisers did after a while, but I'm not sure how much bodies they had downstairs. The Police had a display just beside us, I thought they might have given it the
old 'ello, ello, ello…..' but no, in a private event it's not up to them.

The event looked good from pictures I seen on social media, I went to the Scottish Performance Show earlier this year and it was the same pop bang, pop bang, goodness knows how people in houses never complained.

I’m always happy for NMS to attend/try new things.

These shows however do seem to attract those that want to bounce the car off the Rev limiter, which doesn’t make for an enjoyable experience for most people. As Andrew has said this is why we as a club decided not to do SCS again and the rather herbal smell in the air.

To be fair it's a new show and will have teething problems, hopefully the pop and banging will stop would not mind going up next year for a look, but it should be the case if you start popping and banging or even having engine on before leaving time, you get a warning and if it happens then asked to leave. I never understand why at these family events people do that!

From what I heard the last hour was a bit noisy!

What was the rest of the show like, excluding the muppets redlining their cars? I'm on holiday for a few days so couldn't make it, but all the pre-show marketing stuff made it look a bit too Fast and Furious for me. I could be wrong of course, just got that impression

I'll start by saying we've been a bit spoilt up here in the past with Speedfest.

I'm not entirely sure how they split the two spaces, upstairs there were some club stands, trade stands, super cars, but there were just as many of them downstairs. Maybe that was down to who you knew on the organizing team?

The revving of engines happened for maybe 10-15 mins early afternoon, then lots of engines started up around 5, at that point we took refuge in the Clubby, but you could feel the vibrations coming up through the floor. Downside of that was any announcement over the tannoy regarding order of leaving couldn't be heard. Apparently there were some awards dished out, but again couldn't be heard. I'm sure they'll get on top of this for next year.

If you're a car enthusiast, there were plenty nice cars to see. I'm at the age where even if I don't like a marque, I can still appreciate the work (or not) that's gone into it. For the record, my favourite was a mk2 Golf with Kamei kit, and Callums was a Toyota Supra.

We were parked opposite a Seat club with maybe around 20 cars on their stand, and the fun they were having as a group looked like a NMS crowd. They kept Callum and me entertained at the end with their choons.

That would be the common sense approach, but they were very strict on a no cars moving policy until after 5, when it was closed to the public. The doors were closed on the car park from 09:00 to 17:15.

I'd opt for confiscating keys, and keeping them back until every last car had left.

It's not just the popping & banging at these events that wee on my cornflakes, it's the incessant boom boom boom of 'so called' music that gets on my wick

Then again I'm Victor Meldews brother :shut up:

We were there and I spied your car!

I’m just glad I ordered tickets early with a discount code as an hour wait to pay £19pp is a bit much! We were also sensible and took lunch with us (despite having to pour away our water into a bin at the door due to “arena policy”) as apparently the queues were lengthy (circa 50 mins) and the majority of food sold out quickly. We just so happened to be downstairs having our lunch when the willy waving began and watching a sea of families leave the underground car park covering the ears of their screaming children was not pleasant, however it was during this moment of tinnitus inducing noise that I spied the car park charges (another bug bear with the venue car park being utilised by the car show, parking was abysmal, I feel sorry for anyone attending the wedding fair that was also on), anyway, parking charges hiked up from £3.50 to £10 after 3 hours so at 2 hours 50mins we left, it was plenty time anyway, we spent a good hour and a half chatting with various friends. I think it was overpriced for what it was and I doubt we’ll be back. Some nice cars though but nothing overly stand out and a few more trade stands would have been good!

I travelled through from Inverness with my 9 yo son for the show and was utterly underwhelmed. We had no idea there was anything going on in the underground car park. We thought it was just open for parking once the surface car park was full. The cars on show in the main hall were for the most part predictable.

I’ve been away from the car show scene for best part of a decade. Nothing ever seems to change with this type of event though. Same old rubbish about folk saying “we’re not like other car clubs. We’re responsible and don’t condone the shenanigans.” Aye, right. Don’t think I’ll go back to that event.

Prices for both spectators and exhibitors looked too expensive IMO. It really grates me to pay when we are the ones providing the cars for the show - if it wasn't for us there wouldn't be a show, not sure why we have to pay for the privilege!

Costs need to be covered, but Glamis is an example of how to charge reasonably. And IIRC it's the biggest car show in Scotland

i was excited to see a car show coming further up north and there were countless places giving away filers to get a cheaper entry, but when i saw all of the photos advertising the cars they were all just the cars you see at the Scottish car show every year.

IMO for a new show you should be selecting cars that don't appear indoors at SCS every year and it seemed a bit rubbish that a lot of the local car clubs were all down stairs with it being one of the first major Aberdeen shows you would have thought they would have wanted a lot of the local clubs to be inside. the likes of TSG, north east ford, north east audi. Just my thoughts.

Sorry I wasn't around to say hello, we did a lot of wandering/piccy taking/chatting. More trade stands would have been good, I agree, although it did save me from spending my pocket money.

I didn't see any signs to say there were two separate spaces, was only when I overheard mention of warmth upstairs that we ventured up. And it was only a few clubs that ar$ed around, majority were sticking to the rules.

Not sure how much of that cost was down to TECA.

Don't agree there Mark, for the size of venue they needed numbers, not necessarily quality and/or stuff that's rarely seen. It's a long way to come for the 'top cars' from down south, to an unkown show, and the majority of punters won't know any different. I've never been to SCS, so again wouldn't know any different. As for clubs, say they did have the 3 you mention there, then other local clubs noses are put out of place, they can't win.

Got to agree with Mark, the standard of cars could have been better, most of the pics I have seen are ones who attend shows/Meets in the Central Belt so for me it would be nothing new.

Was there a method as to who was in the main hall, and who was downstairs in the car park? I was surprised to see the Porsche club were downstairs.

Did it feel in any way that the cars downstairs were almost 2nd class citizens, in that they weren't in the main show? I wasn't there, I have no idea on this, just trying to get a feel for it

I really don't know what the criteria was. There was some pretty mundane stuff upstairs.... Vauxhall Adam anyone? Being downstairs I didn't feel inferior, never really thought of us not being in the main show,
if that makes sense.

For me personally I think the organisers should have gone to the more local meets and invited cars attending these meets to display their car inside. They then could have had a section like a local spotlight showing that these cars had been hand picked. Now this would require a lot of legwork. But it would at least give the show a USP

Organisers were boys that run N/A nonsense car club, think they done Scottish Performance Show in Bo’ness as well.

But agree a few cars from the North East would have been good, or at the very least how cleanscene is organised, people submit cars and they get approved.

They also could have contacted local car clubs. No-one contacted me

Most large car shows are organised just to make money. Deep down they have no interest in smaller car clubs, clubs they don’t know or the people that are part of them. The only shows that I’ve ever been to that seem to have any interest in the cars, and especially the clubs taking part, were BMS and MMM.
It’s like the runs and shows that MINI Bitz organise. The amount of cars that turn up is way more important than the quality of the cars and the people/clubs that attend.
I personally much prefer a small, well organised event that is planned with the attending clubs and people at the forefront and has plenty of event staff that you can talk to rather than the larger events where people are just left to their own devices.

I'll let you know how the Minibitz meet is at the weekend on Monday Pete:thumbs up: Most likely be the last time I venture down south this year!
