Hi,

I have just bought a 2017 Mini Cooper SD, and looking into the servicing which is due in a few thousand miles (27,000 miles).

I would like to get my mini serviced at my local garage, but have been told that only Mini garages can rest the computer. This has me :ragin: as you must pay Mini's extortionist service costs (I live outside Aberdeen ££££)..... Has anyone any experience of servicing a new model mini at an independant garage? Can the service indicator be reset outside the Mini network? Apparently it is variable service intervals so if it cannot be reset you will never know when the next one is due unless you go to Mini?:confused::confused::confused:

I know the service history won't be uploaded to the mini system, but I will get stamps and receipts.....

Thanks for the advice,
Steve

Hi Steve,

You can access the reset menu by turning on ignition (pressing start once without touching clutch or brake so the electrics are on but the engine isn't started). Then press and hold down the Trip Odometer Reset button until you see a car raised on a lift symbol.

You can now go through 3 options service, oil and brakes by tapping th Trip Odometer button. If you are eligible to reset that option it will say Reset Possible.

To reset the option, hold the trip odometer button until it prompts you to reset. Then simply hold the trip odometer button one more time and it will say system resetting with a progress indicator, don't let go until it's complete.

If you need out of the reset menu at any time either turn ignition off and on again or wait a minute for it to disappear.

Hope that helps.

Also to find out when your next services are due, you can go in to vehicle status screen and you can check when each item is due next

Does the car not have TLC?

AW Autotech will have the software to speak to the car. Good garage, not the cheapest, but BMW specialists and better than the main dealer for actually looking after the car

Got into the menu to check if I could reset. I could reset brakes, oil etc but could not reset all but the inspection time. It said 'Reset not possible'. Any ideas? Is it still because it is 4000 miles from the service due mileage?

Thanks

I don't know, but it seems a reasonable explanation i.e. you've got nothing to reset yet
