loose gear stick?

Sister has my previous car.....2008 R56 Cooper.

Long story short, I had a pal that fixed the radio many years ago.....but no longer in contact with him.
Sister is saying the surround of the handbrake and the gear stick is loose, I know he snapped a clip there previously but shes saying its feeling looser.....and that the gear stick feels loose.

Any way to fix these at all?

When you say handbrake surround do you mean the grip or where the leather boot clips in and the gear stick is it the knob that feels loose as my knob used to come loose a fair bit but if you line it up with the number pointing forward if you can put a decent amount of force on it you should feel it clip into place.
