View Full Version : MINI at Home & Mothership Tour 24th - 26th May 19

MINI William
19th November 2018, 10:00 AM
On the 26th of May LuxeWerks are hosting their MINI at Home Show in collaboration with MINI at Plant Oxford.

The show is on the 26th but I was thinking that we could travel down on the Friday and do a Factory Tour in the afternoon and have a day in Oxford on the Saturday.

Tickets for for the show can be purchased from HERE (https://www.luxewerx.com/mini-at-home) early bird tickets are £6 and after that are £8.

Can you please let me know if you wish to attend the show and that you have purchased your ticket as I will then need to request a car pass for you for the NMS Stand.

Traveling down to do the Factory to do a tour isn’t compulsory but still want to do the show, but it would great to visit the Mothership in MINI’s 60th Year.

Ive looked at hotels for the time that we are going away and our usual hotel the Premier inn Oxford Business Park is available, but I wouldn’t imagine that rooms will be available for long due to its location to Plant Oxford. I’ve booked the Flexi Rate at £172 for the Friday and Saturday. I would urge anyone wanting at this hotel to book quickly to avoid disappointment.

Can everyone please let me me know when they have bought their tickets, booked their hotel and if they wish to attend the factory tour.

I’m interested, as it’s not that far, do I’ll be going up, rather than down.
My only gripe is that I don’t really like having anything to do with car clubs that are run as a business, which Luxmini or whatever they’ve had to call themselves now is.

I agree, however, it looks like LuxeWerx as a 'car Forum / Club' are just organising this event, they say it's a non profit making event and all monies raised will go to a named charity, so in this instance I don't see it as anything other than a big meet with the various car clubs having their own stands
The normal tour price tickets are double this shows entrance fee, so the good thing they have done is negotiate a decent entry fee for all

Most of the products they sell are promoting their site, hats and stickers, the other items they offer can be had on ebay at a fraction of the cost

I'm sure NMS will have a stand at the show offering their hoodies, hats and stickers to anyone who wants to buy, it'll all go towards the NMS sites running costs
I'm sure

Cuddles- If I'm coming you can look after my wee girl too..... She's only 1, My wee boy will be 4 so would be able to do the tour.

Will be speaking to the Boss to see if it's feasible to go, try and tie it in with a visit to her family down near Slough might work.

Just a suggestion for the Saturday we could possibly make a trip to caffine and machine. Seems to be a must visit place for petrol heads and the weekends seem to have a really good turn out of rare and expensive cars. It's less than an hour away from plant oxford.

And I'm yet to hear anyone say a bad word about the food there.

Last time I had a shot of espresso on a road trip I had palpitations for the last 70 miles

I am more than likely coming on my own or with a mate now, wife’s not keen traveller since a car accident a couple of years ago, through she might decide to come on the train nearer the time. Prob leave the house at 3.30am to allow a hour to get down from Edinburgh.

MINI William
7th April 2019, 05:22 PM
The tickets for the show and the club stand pass aren’t related. As far as I’m away the club stand pass is only a pass for the car to allow the car in. You’ll still need to have got show tickets as well.

Im assuming that thoese that have their show tickets are going to be on the stand, it’s just a little reminder for those that either haven’t got tickets yet or are in 2 minds about going or not

I wouldnt never claim to be at Pete's level of skill when it comes to packing stuff in the rear of a mini. The amount he fits in the back fo the roadster can only be attributed to black magic.

But for a mini euro trip I think I've packed plenty into the little coupe.

1 double airbed
1 sleeping bag
2 goose feather pillows
2 20L wash buckets with grit guards
1 bag of every cleaning product necessary
1 large bag of microfirbes (various piles)
1 holdall with changes of clothes for every day
9 bottles of Lipton ice tea
6 cans of blood orange San pellegrino

Thank you to everyone who came along this weekend. It was a brilliant weekend and hope that everyone enjoyed the Factory and the show.

The show was a new show for NMS to attend and the show has a lot of potential that I’m sure can be worked out but is still worth a travel down to attend.

More catering is is certainly needed and merchants need to have more on to sell, there was plenty company’s there but not a lot to buy. SMPS where really the only exception to this that had lots on offer.

We’re now off to have a look at the cottages for the Bakewell Tour so apologies for not travelling back up with everyone but will be worth it in the end.

That’s me not long back home too. Had a brilliant weekend, factory tour was excellent and show was a good experience. Fun day out yesterday too and I’ve even come home with a tan [emoji3508]

Unfortunately I never got to take many pics, or video, due to the amount of folks that wanted to have a chat about Rocky. It was absolutely mental and it attracts way more attention than 1499 ever did !!!
[emoji15]
At any future shows I’m just gonna grab mi cameras, put mi head down and run away from the club stand to see what the rest of the show looks like.
[emoji23]
I had a stunning roofless cruise on the way down and had no “traffic issues” until I hit the M40, which was expected.
The fact that I ended up being 6 minutes earlier the planned was a very nice bonus though.
[emoji4]
I personally really enjoyed our 300 mile walk around the centre of Oxford and it was a nice addition to a great few days away.
In regards to the actual show it was a great turn out but I personally think that there are quite a few areas in need of improvement.
They really need to be quite a few more “marshalls” walking around checking on stands, be able to answer any questions about the show and generally just police the event in general eg actually enforce the rules especially the “no revving” rule. It can’t be THAT hard to kick out folks if they are being a complete moron.
There were also next to no bins which is a huge omission in my eyes. The layout though is as good as it could’ve been and makes good use of the huge space available.
The severe lack of catering was disappointing but I did enjoy the walk down to Burger King so it wasn’t all bad.
I’ve still got to look through the few pics I did take to see if they are worth posting but I can post this one for now which I’ve taken from the time lapse I took on the Insta360 One X.

I must apologise for the shaky footage in the vid but I’d not tightened up the camera to the stick tightly enough so it moved slightly which is why the video jumps occasionally.
[emoji30]
Oh well, I now know for next time.
It’s not up to Spielberg standards but it has given me an idea of what it’s possible to film whilst we are setting up a club stand.
It’s only 2 minutes long so you can save yourself opening the popcorn.

Thank you both.
[emoji4]
I’m very happy with the pics because I’m still getting used to the new camera and still have a few things to work on with it.

Yeah, the video was just a test really to see if I could get the effect that I was looking for.
It worked a treat but I do need to make sure that the camera is fully fastened to the stick the next time I try it.
[emoji30]
Before MMM I’ll try it out again but with the stick fully extended. Yesterday it was less than half the height it could’ve been.

What a fantastic weekend, good company and prob spent more than I should have! But worth it.

Got tons of pics to go through!

Thoughts on the show:

I enjoyed it but lack of catering unless you liked expensive pulled pork, crêpes or coffee sort of ruined it but luxework even admitted that and how much of a killing they could have made!

Revving of engines totally agree with Pete and could be better enforced.

Traders could have been better

Again it's the second year of this show but could have been a lot more with it being the 60th anniversary year as into seemed people were leaving by lunchtime.

Would defo do it again next year through.

I’ve just re-edited the original time lapse footage and created two tiny planet style videos from it.
I’ve upped the speed to 8x and also added motion blur to the first one.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

They are now only 16 seconds each in length.
