After much anticipation we are pleased to announce the dates for HBT4. Just in time for everyone to go into work tomorrow and get the time booked off.

The dates are the 8th -11th May 2018.

If you've never been on a HBT you just need to take a look at the photos, videos and posts from the last 3 years to know just how great a trip it is.

Full payment of £240 (same as last year) is required by 9th March. As always this is non refundable.
Tyne Tunnel is now £1.70

Same meeting place as all other HBT’s, Musselburgh Services (EH21 8RE) at 9 to leave for 9.30. This is the same as last year and should allow for traffic to be a bit calmer on the way down.

I'm not surprised at all that HBT4 has filled up so quickly. I obviously like my own room, but if there's a single/smaller room, I can take it and it means Hutch & T (if both going again) can share. Unless of course Santa brings me that "Prog Rock Lady" I've been asking for since 2002 OR Kylie gets divorced, goes insane and they revoke my "Not on the same continent" Restriction Order...

After a wee bit of blatant backstabbing at work I will not be able to turn up until after work, probably about 18:30ish, on Wednesday 9th May for HBT IV.
[emoji35]
I will only require a room for Weds and Thurs nights if that's O.K. with everyone else ?

I was furious at first but revenge will be sweet and frequent....

Morning. I’ve really enjoyed the last couple of years trips but there are few trips I want to take/ambitions to fulfil next year and my leave allocation isn’t that good, so sadly I won’t be able to attend HBT 2018.

I really appreciate being included the last couple of years and hopefully I’ll be able to come another year.

Hope all is well with everyone.

William, I’m only able to stop for the Wednesday and Thursday night, due to “work-colleague-related-issues” which is still being payed back on a regular basis, so I do have a question

1: Am I still O.K. to attend ?

Many thanks, Pete

Been seeing ‘our’ Yorkshire a few times on the news and the One Show today. Thornton le Dale etc and I’m sure I saw The Lion pub on the moors road yesterday! Let’s hope we’re as lucky with the weather this year as we’ve been in the past.

Louise, it’s rare that we’ll get a large group in there in one go due to how busy it gets.
I’ve known folk queue for 2+ hours to get in there before now.

A huge thank you to Mum and Dad for organising HBT and all the hard work that goes into it but also a huge big thank you to everyone to attends HBT and make it the fantastic trip away that it is, it wouldn’t be the same without everyone.

Hope everyone got home (or wherever they were heading) safe and sound.

Just a few words on the 4th HBT. People, Roads, Scenery, Weather, Hotel, Food. Excellent in every way. Thank you again Christina and Brian for all your work, thank you everybody for your company. It’s great that we all just picked up where we left off last time, and testament to the quality of the company and the event.

I wasn’t quite feeling myself (or anybody else for that matter!) before HBT4, and the fact that I feel a lot better now is something you can’t really put into words, unless you’re Bob Dylan, and he doesn’t (as far as I’m aware) drive a Mini. I also wasn’t sure (again) how I was getting on with my Mini, but rediscovered the thrill of it all while swooping (and bouncing!) across the moors on a beautiful sunny Yorkshire day with my NMS pals. HBT is just all sorts of therapy, with lots of chips! THANKS.

Ps. Before I forget, congratulations to Eddie and T for their magnificent quiz victory, I had a bit of Brain Fade this year, apologies to Brian! Maybe the pressure of expectation finally got to me, but like a tiny bald Terminator, “I’ll be baaaack!”. If I can remember where the hotel is...

A massive thank you yet again to Christina and Brian for the time and effort that they have put into organising The HBT IV.
[emoji4]
No words will ever truly express just how grateful I am for having had the honour of attending all four to date.
The behind the scenes work that you do in putting it all together is incomprehensible and is a great testament to your passion and love for the family that is called New MINI Scotland.
[emoji8]
I sadly could not attend on Tuesday and I have been asked if it was really worth all the money and time off work just to attend for two nights and one full day ?
Those that did ask will never understand that any time away with N.M.S. is always worth the miles driven, the days holidays used and the money spent. I didn’t feel sad that I missed out on Tuesday and Wednesdays driving and visits, I just feel extremely lucky for the time that I did spend with you all.
❤️
Davy & Cat, thank you too as I know that you also put a huge effort into making the nights as enjoyable as they are. There is never a dull moment and they are always hysterically funny. If laughter is the best medicine I always feel like I’ve had an huge overdose.
[emoji4]
Thank you to Ferg & Lou for your wee present of yet more cider and the two car convoy that we had down to the M62 was a very enjoyable drive. You both deserve a medal for your dedication, and the mileage driven, that you’ve shown and done to attend this years HBT.
[emoji8]
I’ll be honest and say that I was a little nervous about taking Rocky out for it’s first real test. The HBT’s are not the easiest, or smoothest, roads that we drive but I can gladly report that Rocky is more than capable of being used abused on the roads of North Yorkshire.
I have “connected” with it way quicker than I ever did with GP1499.
[emoji41]
I keep saying that each time I attend an NMS event that I’ve done before that it was better than the previous one, it just keeps happening again and again and The HBT IV was no exception.
The roads, driving, food, weather, banter and friendship are without equal.
There are yet again way too many moments to mention but I will make a point of saying “The Wee Hill was awesome this year”.
[emoji12]
Thank you to one and all, The HBT’s just would not be what they are without you.

Well that’s us back from The Heartbeat Tour 2018 or number IV (if that’s what you prefer) and what a trip. Carlsberg don’t do MINI tours but if they did I don’t think they’d be as good as this turns out to be year after year. Why do we always wait so long for the date coming up yet the trip seems to disappear in hours ? It’s always difficult to cram so much driving, chatting, eating, chatting, eating, driving ... (you get the idea).

As always let’s start off with the most important thing “thanks”...
Brian and Christina a massive thanks again for another truly amazing tour. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better you pull it out the bag yet again. Thank you for all the hard work that you put into making the tour such a success. I know how much time and effort that you put into everything from start to finish whilst we all just turn up and enjoy it but I, and others, genuinely appreciate all your efforts.
Cat for organising the “b—-d bingo”. Another hour of carnage, fighting over presents that you know you’ll never get to open ! (thanks also to Karen who donated a few surprise packages too).
“Mom”for supplying the ‘guess how many sweets” jars ... I’ve still got the jar but I promise you’ll get it back.
The staff at The Grainary for making our stay fantastic. The food was great and the staff were so pleasant it really is like a ‘home from home’ feeling as soon as you arrive.
Last but by no means least everyone that was on the tour. I can’t thank you enough for making the trip so much fun. I’m sorry that some weren’t feeling a 100% this year and I hope you all get back to your usual selves quickly. I know it’s not easy for you all to give up your time and money to support the club on the trips but it’s you that makes the trips what they are.
T, Pete, Fergal and Louise I take my hat off to you all for your dedication to join in the fun. I know the travelling is extremely tiring at times but thank you all for making so much effort.

You just know I’ll not leave it there ... but I’ll be back with a short round up of the trip later on.

Day 1:
So after a busy Monday at work I raced home to start getting things packed and sorted ready to head off first thing Tuesday morning. Things were slightly calmer this year than last given I knew the “wee Red Devil” would be our chariot for the HBT this year. So after packing, unpacking, checking everything, packing again it was time to grab a couple of hours sleep before Cat arrived bright an early. After grabbing some fuel we headed off to the meeting point to be beaten into second arrivers by Dave and Fiona. As others started arrive slowly but steadily (that’s the only time that happened on the tour) Crombers sneaked into the car park and immediately set about cleaning his car ! Yes you read this right ... “Carplan” window cleaner was this years cleaner of choice. After ensuring he’d be able to see for the next few miles, folk started to talk about the secrecy of this years activity. “Go Ape” was mentioned and a few of the group seemed a little sheepish about the challenge. Karen was carrying a shoulder injury so that ruled her out if it was a physical activity ... and if it was to be anything to do with heights I was out too. William rounded up the troops and we all made our way to join Brian and Christina and T who were waiting on us a little further down the road.
The sun was out, spirits were high and exhausts were popping and banging as we made our way towards the Tyne Tunnel and the first stop. On jumping out to grab a bite to eat Crombers had ventured into the boot of the Cooper and was again cleaning his windscreen. Twice in less than two hours ... was he not well or just being sponsored by “Carplan” !! A quick stop and onto the bit everyone looks forward to ... the Tyne Tunnel. After last years ‘money mishap’ at the pay booth I was determined to make sure that the coins all went in first time this year ! As the coins rolled in, the barrier rose and the sound of MINI pro exhausts filled the air ... hurtling towards the tunnel, the driver of a Jaguar decided he wanted to be a part of the MINI convoy through the tunnel and pushed his way past William as the sky darkened and the lights came on.
Staying in second gear and lightly feathering the throttle the tunnel was filled with gun shot noises by everyone who could do so. A few minutes later we exited into the bright sunshine and continued our way towards The Grainary (https://grainary.co.uk). A steady trip down had resulted in us arriving mid afternoon and everyone looking forward to fish and chips in Scarborough. Ali and Alistair had headed down slightly earlier than the main group and were enjoying a spot of lunch in the sun when the cars arrived. Mom and dad had been partying in London so they met up with us on the sea front for a bite to eat.
As Christina sorted the rooms for us all, the bags were thrown in and everyone started to catch up with each other as we waited on the NMS Irish contingents arriving. Fergal and Louise attending for the second year in a row arrived a short time later in the new Cooper convertible. Two cars in two years ... if they bring a different one next year they’ll take the record of a different car every tour ! Fergal and Louise literally arrived dropped their bags off and were leaving again with the group as they headed for Scarborough and the sea front. Malcom had secured spaces at the RNLI this year so it was literally parking on the front. As some opted for a sit down meal others decided to head to the usual chip shop next to the now infamous ‘penis sign’. Cat and I joined the queue and after what seemed like a lifetime got served. Fish and chips all round and we crossed the road to join the others eating their tea at the beach against the railings. No sooner had we crossed and went to put the tomato sauce on the chips Cat was attacked by a seagull determined to help her finish her dinner. The attack resulted in the seagull knocking half the battered fish off the container and onto the floor before swooping down to pick it up. As it casually landed and started to eat the fish I kicked out to shoo it away. As I did so William thought it was funny and for some reason thought I was reenacting a scene from “Kung Fu Panda”. Needless to say that was how this years tour was going to continue. On finishing dinner it was time to head to the amusements for someone to be crowned this years air hockey champion given that Megan wasn’t there. Before walking along the sea front a large queue formed at the ice cream shop and talk started about what David’s choice of flavour would be this year given that vanilla was becoming short in supply (probably due to David eating so much of the vanilla ice cream). David opted for toffee flavour for the second year in a row and threw the odds of a Vanilla come back into the bookies faces.
T and I pushed the boat out and chanced the black currant and liquorice which proved to be a winner that’s for sure.
As the group headed along the sea front Cat and Christina stopped to speak to Zultar on Megan’s behalf and see what this year had in store for her. Whilst Brian and William fought it out for becoming 2018 Air Hockey champion Andrew and Eddie decided fought it out on a table next to them but on a more advanced version. Instead of just one puck on the table at a time they had 20 plus. It seemed a bit confusing at first but as the noise cleared over the air hockey tables it was clear that Brian had taken this years championship. I’m sure Megan will be looking forward to regaining it next year.
As we started to head up Oliver’s Mount for the annual visit something strange happened ... it started to rain ! Rain ... rain on the HBT we hadn’t had this before and after a quick photo stop we headed back to settle in for the evening at The Grainary. “Buckie” clearly hadn’t realised that I was coming this year and took a bit a hunting dow, however after a trawl about the sheds and outhouses I was reunited with her. Needless to say she’d been neglected during my absence ...
Things had been altered slightly from previous trips this year and rather than the run being on the Wednesday that had been moved to the Thursday so everyone headed off to bed after being given the following days instructions although none the wiser about what Christina had planned for us.

DAY 2:
A bright but chilly start greeted us as we threw back the curtains of room 7. Some were already up and secretly cleaning their cars as I opened the door to see how much of a mess I’d made of cleaning the little red machine in the dark last night. A slightly more subdued start to the day over breakfast as the group waited in anticipation for Christina’s announcement as to what the day had in store for us all.
Unfortunately Cat had toothache and was feeling a little under the weather after a poor nights sleep. She was joined on the injured list by Karen who was suffering more pain with her shoulder and Malcolm had also now joined the list feeling under the weather. Cat was going to see out the days entertainment on pain killers but unfortunately Malcolm, Siobhan, Karen and Crombers were going to have to sit this one out. The group gathered at 9.45 to the announcement that the mornings activity would be a visit to Scarborough Fair (http://www.scarboroughfaircollection.com/) ... whoooo hooo and the buzz of the group was certainly back. Getting handed a leaflet about the Fair ignited the groups excitement as everyone raced for their cars and we headed off from The Grainary. After a short drive we arrived at the holiday park and after a bit of synchronised parking we all headed into the building to see what awaited.
On entering the fair the group were met with a row of mirrors that changed their appearance accordingly. Everyone set about choosing a mirror that made them look how they’d like to look ... although some thought they were perfect and just wanted to look at themselves in a standard mirror ! After negotiating the mirrors the doors were pushed open into the fair and a large hall containing various old fashioned vehicles and show ground attractions. We’d arrived just in time for the merry go round and as everyone, except Andrew, chose a horse. Some chose by name, others by colour and some just wanted one they could get on ... Having never had the opportunity to experience I have to say what a laugh although I’m not too sure 5e horse I was on was laughing.
The ride finished and everyone wandered around the hall looking at old cars, motorbikes, fie engines and playing old fashioned arcade machines. Christina and William decided to go head to head in a cycle race turning handles to make the riders move towards the finish line. After a great start Christina was in touching distance of the line but somehow managed to lose her momentum and William took the victory, making up from his air hockey loss the previous evening.
The group moved through into the second hall and further entertained awaited. The boys all looked in amazement as they noticed the dodgems whilst the ladies were more taken by the other more relaxing rides or so they thought.
As some boarded another merry go round the6 had no idea what was in store. The ride started somewhat like an NMS run slow and steady with everyone laughing away but as the ride sped up it was clear that some more than others were getting more than the6 expected. “Scream if you want to go faster” ... silence ! Oooh I think that some just wished the ride would stop and they could get off. Cat was hanging on for dear life and Christina was just tying to make sure she wasn’t going to get thrown off the ride. A bit further round Brian and William were looking for an extra gear as was T who appeared unflustered about what was being thrown at them. David and Fiona were hanging on in there although David was only thinking about one thing ... a coffee after he got off. However, Andrew was trying to hang on but failing sliding off the side of the elephant he’d chosen. Elfman was hanging on tight to the stork he was sat on and appeared to be adopting the side car method of leaning the opposite way to stay on. The ride slowed and everyone appeared glad to get off but they’re now got the bug and walked straight towards the next roundabout ...
Some had learnt their lesson and decided to sit this one out and just watch those that had decided to take part. As the ride started and folk started to watch it was clear that this was going to be something different again. As the ride got up to speed a cover suddenly covers the riders and plunged them into darkness. I couldn’t hear any screams from the ride but there were plenty of laughs from those watching as Cat tried to take photos of those on the ride wondering why she couldn’t see anyone going round ... but still managed to take 12 photos of the ride and it’s cover !
Another ride done and dusted.
The group got back together and the pace quickened as we all walked to the opposite end of the hall. There was clearly only one thing on their mind ... I better get a car on the dodgems ! Only 8 cars were available but more clearly wanted to partake so it was a first come first serve ... payments made, cars selected and now it was rules time ... NOT !! I’m not sure any of the lads sat in the cars heard anything that the gent said about ‘do’s and don’ts’ all they wanted was to get their right foot to the floor and pick a victim. It was clear once the ride started there was only one victim ... me !! What a laugh. Can’t think I’ve had so much fun on them before and like all good things do they came to an end quickly.
Christina and Cat decided they’d like to go back in time to the film “Grease” and decided to take on the part of Sandy on the cake walk.
All the halls done and dusted it was time for a quick refreshment break and discuss what was happening next. Unfortunately we didn’t stay for the tea dance although I dread to think what would’ve happened had we stopped.
Back to the cars via the gift shop and a few strategic purchases made we were off to Whitby for a wander round the town.
All parked up at the park and ride and minutes later we were on the bus heading into the town centre. Cat had been tasked with buying some bits and bobs for those that couldn’t make the day and were back at the hotel cleaning their windscreens.
Everyone split up and had a wander round the shops and grabbed some essentials (ice cream). It’s funny how ideas come into your head but they do and it happened again when Cat spotted a cover that would suit William ! Only one thing to say it was lucky they didn’t have the one that i wanted to get him. Shops visited and purchases made it was time to head back towards the hotel for “burgers and beer” and of course the quiz night.
Once back at the hotel we awaited the arrival of Pete who true to his word said he’d be there at 1830 hours and appeared at 1830. A quick catch up and dinner was served. After dinner everyone retired to the lounge for the nights quiz ...
Elfman was the reigning champion in fact he’d won it every year so far and like last year I decided to mix things up and pick the teams out of the hat. To say that silence fell when Elfmans name was drawn was an understatement and those that had been picked crossed their fingers hoping to be paired with last years champion. Euan is paired with (pause) Brian ! If I mind correctly Brian kept from his seat and shouted “get it round you’s” and announced he was off to bed and let Euan get on with it. The challenge had been thrown down again. However looking at the teams I did think it would be a close run thing this year and I was proved to be right. I changed some of the rounds this year and added a logo round ... which certainly caught a few out and provided a few laughs when I marked the answer sheets.
All done and answers given ... time to mark the papers before heading to bed.
Papers done and I caught up with T, Eddie and Pete over a couple of drinks before we all called it a day and headed off to bed.

Once again thank you Brian and Christina, I had an absolute blast, it's been a while since I had been in tears with laughter but the NMS banter never fails to disappoint.

Davy thanks for the quiz, I really enjoy them! And to have won this year was brilliant, I couldn't have done it without T, although I have to say I missed having Cat as my quiz partner but the names in a hat provided some amazing teams PMSL, well done to Andrew and William on a close second but "winnings winning, doesn't matter if is by an inch or a mile" lol

I won't lie, when I seen the leaflet for the Scarborough Fair Collection I was thinking it wouldn't have been my cup of tea but I hadn't noticed we could go on the rides!! And what a laugh it was, especially that 2nd ride, it was the first time I had ever been on a ride thinking I might actually fly off PMSL but I was actually more worried about Andrew, it was hilarious though each time I looked he was further and further off his elephant.

It's great to be back, roll on HBT5!!!

DAY 3
After an evening of rain it was nice to see the sun was back out again for “run day”. It had been swapped from its usual spot but everyone was still looking forward to a wee run before lunch at the Lion Hotel. Needless to say the run was up to its usual standard and lunch came too soon. Crombers and Karen had managed to make their way to meet up for lunch after a visit to the hospital for a check up on Karens shoulder. More of the same after lunch with the obligatory stop in Goathland and of course more ice cream. David avoided the limited edition black vanilla ice cream in favour of a cup of coffee. Heading back to the hotel and stop for fuel proved a stumbling block as our route home was closed and the diversion took us back into the middle of Scarborough at rush hour. Pete managed to get a small group of us home despite all the sat navs telling us the route he’d planned was closed.
Time for a shower and a quick beer, dinner and everyone retired to the lounge for a game of bingo and the raffle. Before the evenings formalities I announced the results of the quiz. Elfman and Brian had hit a stumbling block this year and weren’t going to adorn the winners podium ! It looks like Euan was right this year his brain had finally let him down but as he said “he’ll be back” next year to take the trophy from Eddie and T who just pipped William and Andrew to top spot. Well done lads. The wooden spoon this year went to Christina and Ali, however Christina seemed delighted that she’d won the wooden spoon as she needed a new one ...
After the quiz results, Christina announced this years surprise awards. One had been selected by the Grainary chef and the second by the car park attendant at Goathland. Ali took the Grainary award and a massive thanks to the car park attendant for picking the wee red buggy (with the white roof) as his favourite car. The little Red Devil had its first award lol.
Next up the clubs firm favourite past time “ba****d bingo” hosted by Cat. The clubs playing cards were handed out, rules explained and it all kicked off ... literally. The thought of getting a feather duster seemed to be too much for Christina and Alistair who swapped the present back and forth. Christina was reluctant to give up the prize causing Alistair to jump up on the arm of the chair and attempt to retrieve it. Almost immediately he was out his seat and running around the living room getting chased by Cat who had deceived that she wanted the prize back. I think everyone including Cat was in fits of hysterics and that’s the first time I’ve seen someone chased over a bingo prize. Anyway it turns out the feather duster had turned itself into a Scotland flag by the time the game was over ... funny how the shape of a parcel conjures up a particular prize.
Next up was the raffle with this years chosen charity German Shepherd rescue benefiting from the proceeds. As Christina mentioned a fabulous total raised for the charity and those present should be proud of themselves for raising such an amount in an evening. Thank you all for your kind donations. This years prizes were superb too some amazing prizes including the “frozen”canvas donated by Ali that made it way home with Karen and Crombers.
This year the electric chair made its reappearance only it was Fergal that seemed to be getting the full punishment with the faulty controller. Elfman was just happy to escape alive as he couldn’t seem to let go of his controller he’d been shocked so many times.
Stories, chats and discussions continued into the wee small hours before the last few headed off to bed. It always seems strange leaving the living room on the last night knowing you’ll not be back doing the same again until the following year.

So that’s really it in a nutshell... for those that were on the tour I know you’ll be back for more next year all going well. It’ll be great to see some new faces too. I’m sure you’d enjoy it. I’ll await the “Heartbeat Tour 5th Anniversary Tour” post.

Again thank you so much Brian and Christina for making this not only happen but making it such a fantastic trip. I don’t know how you do it but I’m so glad you do and on behalf of all the “runners and riders” on this years HBT “Thank You”.

Until next year there’s plenty of other things that will keep you occupied so if you’ve never been to a show or meet pop along and meet your NMS family.

I think it says a lot that people will travel the miles they do just to be part of the family ... so to those that are heading to MMM see you soon. Missing you all already ...
