Evening all.
Well, being a biking nut all my days and cars very much in the background, I have eventually fulfilled another tick in the box of things I always wanted. I have always loved minis both old and new. I have bought a gen 1 2005 cooper in lovely racing green. 60,000 miles and in lovely condition.
Picking it up on Thursday. It's only had three owners and someone has cherished it.
I only came across it on a main dealers forecourt when I was actually looking for a new car and I fell for it there and then, that kind of purchase is normally only reserved for two wheels
Looking forward to hopefully a long ownership. I am sure all you mini boffins will become invaluable to me. I am an aging ex motor mechanic but a very rusty one, things have changed somewhat from the days of feeler gauges and dwell angles
Cheers
Paul

I pick the car up today, I did check the overall condition of the car and had a good listen to the engine and had a test drive and all seemed to fit with a well looked after car, 11 years old and 60,000 miles all seemed to feel correct.
The car was going to get a full mot and service and the dealer (main dealer) called yesterday to say that for the mot all it needed was a rear brake pipe. He has also called today to say that the rear brake pads where worn past 50% and that they where going to replace the rear pads and discs. He then said that three of the tyres where at the 3mm mark so they are going to also replace these. I know we tend to slate dealers but this has been a pleasant surprise. As I say I found the car by mistake whist looking for a new car and fell for it. I checked over the engine and underneath and had a test drive, I thought the tyres looked not too bad but did not inspect them fully. I was happy with the the deal and a small warranty to cover my back. I was more dangerously focused :hand: that this was a cracking example and a keeper in my head so other things would be sorted.
But there you go there is still such a thing as dealer service. I served my time in a Renault garage a very long time ago so I know what it can be like in the motor trade.
Now getting excited I hope it works out, despite what you think you know, car buying still carries an element of luck, I loved the mini all my life and never bought the original because it was just a bit to small for me, when the new one came out I instantly loved it and had a few friends that had them. Then a member of the family got a mini one and although it was not that great an example condition wise I still drove it and though I could have one of these. But after many motorcycles Today becomes the mini reality.
I am still a biker through and through but driven all my life and cars have been secondary but this is a new era for me.
Cheers

Here are some pictures, the car is excellent, drives brilliantly and engine sounds in very good order. I have checked it all over fully and it's in brilliant condition, especially for its age.
There is a very small leak in the rear, I have narrowed it down to the rear high brake light I think, It's a very small leak highlighted by it being valeted, it's bone dry under the carpet and the boot floor and tool well are dry. I only noticed it when I was checking the car over and it's a very small area that's affected.
However the body shop have booked it in for next week and are going to sort it out, again great service. I water tested it myself and can see that the sunroof etc are bone dry, all the floor area is bone dry so if I was going to have a leak this is the easiest one to sort and as I say it's not a big one.
Other than that it is a cracking car, love that dash especially at night. It's a fun car to drive hugs the road. I am now content I have a good one and I know I will have my ups and down, after all it's a machine, but it's all part of the adventure. But it's a great car to have and will be worth the investment as I intend to keep it until one of us reaches our natural end:smilewinkgrin:
