Morning all. Wanted to say Hi as new to the Mini scene.
I picked up a Cooper S at the weekend. So far so good. Fun, fast and economical.

Does anyone know my car.
SW08KUT. If so pm me.

Thanks

Welcome to NMS. Get some pics up of your Mini, more chance of someone recognising it.

Where you based?

Even all, I'll get some piccie up soon once I can work out how to from my iPad.
You'll never guess what though. Picked up Saturday and it's back in the garage today to get the death rattle looked at. I've told them to change the timing chain for peace of mind. LOL. You have to laugh, I cannie be bothered getting angry as the garage will just put it through a warranty company.
As along as its fixed. I will keep keeping an eye on it.

I'm based Edinburgh.

Oops, done in triplicate. Oh well.

Went to the Scottish car show today, popped by NMS, very impressive array of Minis.
Her indoors didn't want to hang about outside today due to the cold weather, she's always cold. So did a quick tour and headed back home.

Hope to meet up with all some time soon.

Me to. I had an email saying it'll probably be the end of the week. That was after I sent 2 video clips of the rattle.

Fingers crossed.

Well, got a call from the garage. They're changing the Vanos, apparently that's what's making the noise but as a precaution they've said if I pay for the price of the chain kit they will fit it F.O.C. The warranty is paying for the Vanos and they're footing the labour for the fitting of the chain. (Still to be discussed face to face)
So getting it back Friday afternoon, so I've taken a half day off work to go for a blast down the borders to make sure it's tickety-boo. Then I can start with sensible mods.

Well, things have grown arms and legs and I now don't have a bill. Phew.
I'm supposed to be getting it back Wednesday. But meantime I've got a mini Mayfair diesel to run about in.
It's no "S". LOL. So will give you all an update then. It'll give me a chance to have a good chat with the mechanic.

Vanos changed along with the t/belt kit and it's still making the same noise. So the garage are putting a new head on it under warranty. So far i can't find a similar problem on the forum where someone's heads been replaced. The mechanic said it'll be the best S on an 08 plate with 40k miles on it.

I was surprised when they said they'd have to replace the head.

We will see what happens Wednesday. So far they've had it longer than I've owned it.

Doesn't sound good at all. I hope they're not just trying different things, changing the head is a bit drastic when they're not certain it's even that.

super charger low of oil ? sounds mad but one of mine made the ticking sound like the chain tensioner when I opened the s/c ports up 1 was empty and the other almost , put fresh oil in and this sorted it out. change the water pump at the same time

Believe me, there's more to this story than meets the eye.
I've post a question on the engine gearbox forum.
You might giggle.

I'll post more on that question later.
