Chrome bumper bits

On r50 bumpers Can you remove these from the bumpers to paint? Or is it easier to mask it off n paint?

From what I've seen they are mounted into the bumper so it's just a case of mask up and paint.

They can be removed on the facelift quite easily as they clip off but on the pre facelift they are glued on so rather difficult to remove.
