R53 or R56 what would you have less trouble with? I'm looking at getting a coopers s would love a R53 but not sure about the upkeep. Iv got a f56 one D just now for work and looking to get a weekend toy I could mod a bit.

Both open to modding depending on budget ect you can get more power easy out a R56 but IMO a R53 is much more fun to mod and loads of 2nd hand parts so can make it a lot cheaper

Iv been debating this but chose the 56 for various reasons
Road tax
Mpg
Servicing charger

Might get a 53 when the wifes 50 dies tho as wont b used as much

I'm not too sure if I'd go down the R56 route or not ... I probably would but don't be fooled by folk saying you get more power from the turbo over the supercharger. Personally I love the R53 it's rough and ready and is a drivers car. There's a big difference between the two cars but it's always down to personal preference and what you fancy ... The main thing is don't rush in as they'll always be something else just around the corner. As the others have said happy hunting.
