R56 Gearbox query

Friends of my folks have a Cooper 07 reg and they are having problems with their gearbox in the fact that when they are changing down it is not going into second all the time without crunching, changes up ok. They have owned it for a while now and it had a gearbox replaced under warranty while back. Just thought I would try and help them as they are unsure whether to repair or trade car in
