Below are the NFC functionalities, as listed by MINI themselves.

Functionality

The key cover includes an innovative NFC chip.

–Hold the NFC enabled smart phone against the small raised area on the right hand upper side of the key cover so that the device can recognise the chip.
–
The first time the smart phone contacts the key cover, if the customer does not yet have an NFC app on the device, the app download area opens and gives the customer the opportunity to search directly for special programming apps and download them.
–
Once the NFC chip has been configured, the customer can fully automatically call up the smart phone's various functions, such as volume, WLAN, Bluetooth or an app, and by contacting the chip and the smart phone once more, these actions can be undone.

Once connected to the MINI key, the key fob is closed with a badge bearing the embossed MINI logo.
