I bought a Nikon D7100 about a year ago, I had been trying to justify a DSLR for ages but decided a wee trip round the world and a couple of weeks in the Isle of Man for the Classic TT was a good enough reason to buy one. There were various reasons why I picked the D7100 the main reasons being performance and that it has a cropped sensor (ie. It's not full frame) which makes it lighter, this suited me as due to my illness and my back problems.

If I was buying it now though I think I would opt for the D7200 due to its slightly better performance. Being able to download pictures using WIFI could also be handy but I would imagine downloading is quicker by connecting the SD card to either your tablet or laptop.

I'm happy with the pictures I'm taking considering I'm just teaching myself as I go along, the following are three pictures from the Classic TT / Manx GP

Braddan Bridge, William Dunlop on a Norton Rotary and Dan Cooper on a 4 valve Manx Norton.

This is just after the bend at the end of Cronk-Y-Voddy where I would imagine the bikes are doing 150-160 MPH. I'm sitting on the verge with some fresh air for protection if something goes wrong !!!

and a picture from Yosemite National park

If you want to try the camera, give me a shout.

Well a wee story ,so after a lot of mucking about on tinternet , I decided to go and have a look at cameras in person ...so to speak , the one we went to buy was out of stock (D7200) so got a really great deal if I took the D7100 kit that they had ,I can add Wi-Fi if I want (but won't) and other such things ,but I will be going to a local camera club ,because if not I will leave it on Auto

Yeah I personally don't think the lack of Wi-Fi is a big deal. As well as Auto try using the scene modes, they can make quite a difference. I just play about with the other settings, sometimes it works and sometimes it fails miserably. I've got the book "Nikon D7100 for dummies" and I've found it helpful.

I never use auto anymore.
I take a pic and have a look to see if I got it right and 70-80% of the time I am happy with the result, if not, I make a few adjustments and try again.
My main problem is trying to actually remember which settings are the best for which kind of shot but I just don't use it enough to even begin remembering !!

I do need to use it more but I have taken some shots that I'm VERY happy with this year.
:)
I've promised myself to use it a lot more in 2016 and I may even spend some time finally getting my head around Affinity Photo to "Morganise" some pics as well.

Well Brian its the same for me I don't really use auto any more, some photos are better than others but like Pete I sometimes can't remember what settings I used or how I managed to get the photo looking so good. I did a day course which gave me the basics and made me take the camera off "auto" although it does come in handy for the odd rush shot. It's not scary it's just getting the chance to use it ... Pete has taken some belters this year and Stephen took all those crackers on the HBT don't think he took a bad one lol

Thank you kindly Davy but I will always say that the main part of photography is having a good eye for taking a pic. If you can nail that part you'll take great pics even using an iPhone.
Some of my favourite pics from this year wouldn't win any awards but when I look back at them they do put a smile on my face as they bring back some great memories.

Pete there are a few in there too that I love and like you I remember the day that they were taken and the carry on that had been had. Sometimes it's not about the photo itself it's about the memory the picture just jogs the memory. You have however a great eye for a photo (unlike me) and some of your photos have been amazing this year. I take loads with the hope of 2 or 3 being average but I love having a camera that allows me to do that which is half the battle ...
I'll await your results Brian with baited breath ....
That last photo is one of my favourites too ...

Some are edited, mainly on my iPhone, but I do like the "edited look" sometimes.
I'm happy that this year I've actually taken a lot less pics and as a result not had to delete as many "not so good" pics.
I'll take that to mean I'm improving and I'm hoping that the trend continues.
:)

I also can't wait to see how you progress with the new camera Brian.

Cracking pics Pete ,Davy you are spot on with the memories ,possibly a true reflection of a great pic is to bring back the moment that made you take the pic in the first place ,the memories that are brought back from looking at Petes pics is one of the reasons that I love NMS and the people that are in it :yes nod:

Thanks all.
:)
I've gone from "trying" to take a good pic and just taking pics of whatever catches my eye at that specific moment.
I think that my photography has improved from doing so.
I don't normally do B&W pics but this one from in the car park at The Grainary I think is just awesome.

I walked past the front of Davy's S and caught the sight of a few of you in the headlight glass and just had to walk back and take s shot of it.

If I remember correctly from left to right it's Craig, Eddie, Mom & Dad.
