Any thought of a NMS trip around the NC500 next year? It does look bloody good

I've mentioned it elsewhere but I'm hoping to do the N.C. 500 as part of a full weeks tour of Gods Country next year.

We've done the Highland Tour (call it the NC500, it's pretty much what we've covered) for many years bar 2015 & Mr & Mrs Weefossy iirc have a 100% attendance record with 5 or 6 trips

My favourite part is the Wester Ross Trail which has to be one of the finest roads in the UK if not beyond. If you are blessed with a clear dry day then I'd bet it would be one of your best driving memories ever.

& as for the Bealach Na Ba ............. well

The whole concept for the Highland Tour was conjured up by Paul Gaskell aka Vidal Baffoon. Paul is sadly no longer around, a thoroughly decent guy but a bit of a keyboard warrior

Alex 'Alex from NM' Stephenson took over after Paul's departure until last year but hopefully this trip can be re-introduced.

Now the reason for my little history briefing was that the above two chaps hail from the North East of Engerlandshire & I reckon that the 'baton' would benefit from another residing in the same area ............ any names anyone :Whistle::smilewinkgrin:

'Cough Ciderfex cough' ....... fill yer boots :thumbs up:

How long do you guys normally take to do the 500 ??
I was aiming at a VERY steady 3-4 days for that part. I do enough "spirited" driving on other runs and I would want to really take in the scenery if I did this and not just floor the GP at every single opportunity.
I've done the A9 up and back down when we went to The Orkneys a few years ago and even though it's a great driving road the scenery is no where near what I know is over in the West and North West of Gods Own Country.

When you first get north of Fort William, normal stop-overs are Portree, if you want to do a Skye loop or
Plockton,.
We usually then stay at Ullapool, then Tongue. We normally don't do the east coast, boring, but come back down through, Nairn, Granton-on-Spey, Tomintoul, Braemar and Perth. 4 days, with 3 stop-overs should do it.

Agree with all of the above, cut out the East Coast ........ boring, dull & just nae fun.

Well you sure as heck don't hail from the South West, mind you the Cider loving bloke in you might say otherwise :hand:

On a slightly more serious note I think that a continued development of the Highland Tour / NC500 would always be a firm favourite on any annual NMS schedule. We now have the superb Heartbeat Tour on our annual must do's but I reckon there is room enough for these two exceptional trips per annum :thumbs up:

If you are up for it I'm sure others will follow, as long as it is what you want, i.e. sharing the trip with others

An "escort" from your company car round the HT sounds like a PLAN! :)

Oh I like the idea of an office escort car - might mean William could finally overtake that Duster

We have just hired a 70's VW camper for a week in August next year and intend to certainly do some of it. Skye and Durness are the two places on the list so far. The last two nights will be spent at Beauly at The Belladrum Festival [emoji1]
