Got my hands on a second pair of tail lights, any advice/knowledge on splitting them would be appreciated!

If you've got the tail lights then you'll need to split them. Its a tricky process and the best way to do it is to mark with masking tape where you need to cut. Then with a dremel or hack saw slowly cut into the light until you've got it separated. Once you've painted them you need to seal the light again and it's best to clamp them whilst they dry out. It's a time consuming job but can be worth the effort. What colour you planning on doing them ... Catherine's are far better than mine as we painted hers the roof colour !

Headlights are a bit trickier and time consuming ...

Does the position of the cut on the edge matter? best off closer to the rear edge of unit as apposed to the lens side? Cant make sense of where you cut in your picture davy  - any difference with the facelift units also?

Colour wise i was just going go for gloss black, not sure what else I should go for! Picked up a cooper spoiler for the G-Wing too and don't know whiter to keep it gloss black to match the wing or dark silver for the roof

I take that back, I see the cut now. a few mm from the lens?

It's best to make sure that you give yourself enough room to seal it back together without it being too close to the edge of the lens if that makes sense. I think when I did Cats there was a mark all the way round that I used (facelift).
As for your roof spoiler I'd go for the roof colour in the spoiler ...

I was going to get these painted but i figured, if i try myself and mess it up its only a £40 mistake and cheep enough for another set of lights. I'm pretty damn happy with the results. Now just for putting it all back together...

So thought id just finish off this thread with the end product. Not perfect, but this is the first real modification I have really every tried on a car.

To people that are reading this down the line, its a pain in the **** but i think its going to be very worth it when they are on the car. Having sealed them there are a couple of points I would have done differently here and there but its all in the learning curve.
Decided to go ahead and paint them myself as I HATE having people do thing for me especially for the rip off price I was quoted between this and G-Wing installation. I did tell myself nothing goes on the car without being perfect but decided I wanted to try things myself also, in the end only another £40 to try again.

Id say the key is in preparation with this mod, correct tools and correct materials.
Defiantly for another shot at this further down the line, depends how much the OCD kicks in.
