Hi all, im looking at a 2003 R53 cooper s later this evening, not much history to be fair so dont know if its had a timing chain/tensioner replaced. Do they have life spans or do they just need changed if/when noisey? How much will a decent indy charge for the work? Any help appreciated!

Tbh it's really a hit and miss on the timing chain issue ... One day they can be alright the next noisy. The parts aren't expensive to sort them but the labour can be a pain sometimes but an independent garage should not charge you too much. Just ensure its been looked after and if there's not too much history it's always a good bargaining tool ...

What about the camshaft sensor leaking oil, most say they all leak and need replaced?? Ball ache of a job with having to take the front off?
