Why have mini decided that 5studd is the way forward for 2nd gen minis?

I had decided on the wheels now I have countryman I can't get them due to 5studd...argh.....

who is to blame for that.......... Anyone know the offset?
Anyone know where to get wheels to fit?

There will be loads of wheels out there my guess would be that they will be the same as BMW 5 stud fitment not 100% sure tho !! Just a guess

Yeah if you notice that everything MINI is slowly heading towards the BMW standard.
4 to 5 wheel studs
Fuel cap moved from nearside to offside.
Exhaust changed from offside to nearside
... And so the list goes on ;)

as others have said ....standardisation across BMW range , even more so with F56 ...fuel filler moved to o/s etc
