r56 tinny sound coming from engine and engine management light on

When I started my r56 cooper s this morning there was a tinny sound coming from the engine and the engine management light was on.The noise is only there when I rev the engine. anybody got some ideas to what it could be ?

The most common noise is the timing chain

N14 or N18 engine

What year of registration is it ?

Its a 2007 reg.it seems to only do it for about 2 or 3 minutes when the engine is cold.
