Does anyone know which brand of pads and discs (front) MINI use in the R56 JCW?
I also mind Stoney saying that 350Z pads fit are they identical?

Not sure what the OEM brand is, but I'm looking at upgrade options for mine just now - so many choices it's a bit mind mending! I've heard good things about Mintex M1144 pads, not sure if they're more track orientated though, also EBC YellowStuff seem to be well liked but again from what I can tell aimed more at folk who track their car a lot.

Yes the 350z are exactly the same I'm sure I'm my bild thread is the type of pad I got and they have done 2 track nights with ease

I would recommend HEL brake lines they make a huge improvement I noticed it when took them off !!

Four pots  I'm not looking to upgrade as I'm happy with the standard setup, only cooked them once and I was going really hard on them

The difference that Hel lines make is unbelievable Eddie.
I changed the fluid and fitted Hel lines and my brakes were transformed.

just ordered up some hel lines for my jcw roadster . for info im using redstuff pads and now they are properly bedded in they are working really well ,only issue i had was on the lecht section of the highland tour when i got a bit of fade possibly due to the fact the pads had only done a couple of hundred miles

After doing a bit of digging I'm thinking, M-tec discs and ds2500 pads would be my best bet. Anyone got photos of the M-Tec discs after a few thousand miles? To see how the coating is lasting

We have just had ours done for The Heartbeat Tour. New drilled and grooved discs with new pads. Left it to our local garage to order the parts as owner is into "proper" cars and knew what I was looking for. Haven't had the bill yet, so don't know make or cost, but do know they have awesome braking power.....and they look OK as well. Will post up costs / make when I get his bill.

I know that my wheels and hubs are minging Eddie but the discs do clean up back to shiny black.
Those M-Tecs have been on for nearly three years and done about 15K and I still have the bog standard Mintex pads on which came with the discs.

Pete are those the standard M-Tecs or are they the Black edition? I am liking the idea of finally having drilled and grooved discs :thumbs up:

Made my mind up going with the M-Tec grooved and drilled and M1144 pads all round, think that'll give me the best balance between stopping power and them still working on a cold Scottish morning

Will go for the Hel lines as well, in orange of course, now if only I could work out which one of these 2 it is that I actually need!

Do you need to fit new wear sensors?

DigitalLemming
21st March 2015, 06:43 PM
Do you need to fit new wear sensors?

From what I can tell you only need to fit them if they've been tripped - i.e. your warning light is on cause the current pad has worn right down. If they've not been tripped then I think it's ok to leave them.

Nope as there is no place to put them so there just cable tided up behind the wheel arch [emoji106]

Just a wee bit of advice for any one who is getting the black coating as above for the first 100m or so don't apply your hand brake when stopped as you have the chance of the pads sticking to the disks and don't worry about the smell at first it's just the coating burning off [emoji106][emoji106]

A set will be going on The Hearse, with Hel lines, when the brakes on that need renewing.

How do the MTEC discs sound under load compared to the OEM ones? I had EBC drilled and grooved discs in the past and I remember them being quite noisy under heavy breaking. I could do with replacing the discs on mine at the moment as they are rusting away

Must be a week for fitting Mtec brakes I started to fit mine on Thursday afternoon but I need a rear calliper rewind tool as the piston is well out, tool should be with me on Monday but as I am going down south on Monday to collect my GP so the S brakes will have to wait until Wednesday before I get the time to fit the full set.

jonnie
12th April 2015, 07:33 AM

Really interesting thread this. I was getting a bit of brake judder/wheel shimmy under braking on the Heartbeat Tour. Fairly low miles on my JCW brakes, but they have been on for a while so might be a bit 'off' by now? Car still stops ok, but must get them checked... Could maybe have a bit of rust on the back of the discs...

Eddie_JCW
18th April 2015, 02:17 PM
I was getting that too Euan before I replaced my pads and discs but that was after 30k miles of use

I had the car out again last night and the brakes actually felt ok. Possibly whatever was causing the problem has finally worn off? The car wasn't out for months last year due to me and my Dad's health issues - and it had only had a few short outings before the Heartbeat Tour. The discs and pads have therefore done MUCH less than 30k, in fact the whole car just passed 15k on the Tour! I'll see how it goes in the next few weeks... Fingers crossed!

EcosseGP
