Hi folks,
I am a dimwit here so sorry for the remedial question,

I got my first tyre pressure warning light today, I went to the garage to put some air in and found 3 of my tyres was on 33psi and the one that was down a bit was 31psi

Is 33 too high as I haven't checked them at all since buying the car?

Cheers
Billy

Actually, 33 sounds quite low for what look like 17" wheels. Check the tyre pressure sticker in the door jamb which gives the pressures - though only in bar, so you may need to convert them. The sticker should also tell you the tyre size which allows you to check if these are the original-sized wheels to which the pressures apply.

My SD Roadster on 17" wheels requires 41psi, for comparison.

What are you running on them ? Run flats or non run flats ?

I run my 17s at 32/33psi

Don't forget that lowered pressures are also good for causing a bent rim on potholes.

My experience is that lowered pressures definitely harm grip, even over bumps, thought the softer response with lower pressures may give less initial disturbance from the bump.

But then I avoided sports suspension (and even Mini confirmed that was a good idea for rough rural roads...) - I find no significant difference in comfort with pressure.
