Hey folks, I'm new. Be nice 😉
Been trying to get a mini for a while but life seemed to get in the way. Finally just bought my first mini, went for a Mini Cooper 1.6 07 plate. Never thought a car could make me so happy haha! Really does make the commute to work fun :) I live in fife, scotland and would love to get in touch with anyone willing to guide me in the right direction when it comes to my mods and where I'm going wrong etc. Thanks in advance, Hannah

Welcome to NMS Hannah

As Craig says we're largely a friendly bunch and won't bite! We'll reduce your bank balance but thats about it - keep an eye out for William, he's responsible for most of my spending

Post some photos of your car when you've got a sec as well :thumbs up:

Welcome to NMS Hannah. Get some pictures up of your car and get along to a meet. As to help with mods that's not a problem we can always help with that, I've helped many people spend money on mods

Iv posted pics but don't know if they need to be vetted first :) was the first thing I did. Would love to come to a few meets if there are any coming up. Only bought the car on Friday night so still very basic :)

Don't be worried about having a "standard" car Hannah the club isn't just about the car it's about the owners too. :)

So I see....it's payday in 3hours and I'm busy searching the net for my first mini modifications ready to buy on the stroke of midnight :) I'm also looking for a wheel refurb guy. My wheels look like they've been refurbed alreadyand pretty shoddily, theres not a kerb mark in sight but it's like they've left the wheel nuts covers off and waters got in under the lacquer and bubbling "/ not good

:welcome: Enjoy your new car Hannah ,lots of knowledge on here ,Davie is 100% spot on ,it's not all about the cars ,that's one of the reasons that during the winter months more emphasis is placed on social meets, lots of them coming up ,you are welcome anytime just check out the social/meets section :yes nod:

I'd love to come to a few meets, gutted I think I missed one today that was near me. I think I was put off coming onto a mini forum the other night incase it was going to be folk commenting that I had a very basic-ish looking R56 :) iv spent all my cash buying her and really just want to do little bits here and there.

The great thing about our cars is they're all different, very easy to mod and can be modded on any budget, in fact most of the time it's the inexpensive changes that make the biggest difference ;) on here you'll see lots of things on other cars that you like and you'll get lots of great ideas. Enjoy :)

Hmfc1874
26th October 2014, 10:47 PM

Well you're in the right place for advice, there's not much you won't find on here and if we don't know then we'll no doubt know someone who does.

Don't be scared Hannah ... What I will say is don't be afraid to ask. Like Eddie says there's a wealth of knowledge on here and I bet at some point someone has done or considered doing what you want to do. Sometimes it can save you money if it's something that someone else has done and doesn't work or maybe suggests something better or similar. We've all started where you are just now so don't be afraid to ask away.
You should've just popped along today we'd have had your pay spent well before now lol :):)

Hannah don't worry about having a standard car we don't discriminate on what car people have or what has or hasn't been done to it. It's your pride and joy and that's what matters.

Your us photos don't need to be vetted and should show if they arent let me know and I'll have a look. Have you uploaded them to something like photo bucket? If so just copy the IMG code into a post

Hi Hannah, welcome to NMS.
:)
After 2.5 years of owning a MINI I have found that 90% of being a MINI owner is about the people you meet and only 10% is about the actual car.

.....that 10% can be VERY expensive though.

I should add, that I was a bit apprehensive too but I was made to feel very welcome and completely at ease within 30 seconds! I can't remember all the peoples names I was introduced to, so I'll have to work on that :-)
Its great to be in the company of MINI-mad people, and it was brilliant to see 16 of them all lined up in the car park!

I still want a white sticker tho ;-)

Well I stayed up late to watch my pay go into my account.....all to watch it pretty much leave just as instantly :) I may have gone a wee bit OTT with my first mods. But hey ho, you only live once. I'm doing cosmetic mods first, I'm comfortable with that stuff. Had my first "problem" today though, huge warning light came on as I was driving down the a92, pulled over and it told me I had a puncture so popped into the petrol station to find that one of my runflats was sitting at 20 and the rest at 48. The other three at 48 seem offy high, is that right? I worked out how to reset the indicator and alls well again but it did remind me that I need to go back over the book and make sure I know my mini inside and out. X

48psi is way too high and will affect the handling, look inside the driver door, you will see the pressure settings, make sure all are correct, safe :motoring:

checking the handbook is something lots of people don't do, 5 or so minutes can save a bit of a shock at the side of the road, have a look at the drivers door pillar and all the tyre info will be there :thumbs up:

27th October 2014, 09:41 PM
Yeah like Brian says you'll get the hang of it Hannah and don't be shy we've all been in your position ..
John I'm glad you enjoyed it yesterday and great to meet you. Had a look for the bits we were discussing yesterday and might have come up with a solution. I'll let you know how things go.
Spud was in the same boat and he had a ball too.
Only down side is once you come away from the meets after meeting folk and seeing the cars you get more ideas as to what you'd like to do / change !
Yeah those tyres are far to high for run flats I run mine at 38psi which is the recommended pressure for the car but just check the manual as yours maybe be set slightly lower.

MINI William
27th October 2014, 10:03 PM
As above look over the handbook as it can save a nasty shock. Have a look in the drivers door and it will give you the recommended pressures.

Glad John and spud had a great time always great to see new faces

I nearly had a stroke when I checked the other tyres, even contemplated doing the girly thing and phoning my dad to make sure my eyes went deceiving me! I said 48 was too high, but I got this mini straight from a garage so didn't even think to check the tyre pressures on the drive home. Think il be back down to the petrol station to rectify the pressures in the morning before work then :) bloody Nora, il get there eventually haha x
