View Full Version : Not so European road trip...........

Hi,

Some on here know, most don't...however, was looking at a possible European road trip. Unfortunately, been way too busy workwise and the first opportunity to do anything will be mid/end of October.

Seeing as part of the proposed trip was involving the Alps, decided that it may be a bit too snowy for 1511 to cope with sooooo.....Scotland it is!!

Below is where we're going to be staying and, if possible, would be great if anyone can suggest some good routes to have a drive on.....plus, if anyone lives around the areas we're going to and fancies a coffee....just shout.

20/10. Cameron House Hotel, Loch Lomond

21/10. Fonab Castle, Pitlochry.

22/10. Culloden House, Nairn.

23/10. Gleneagles.

Was planning the drive down from Nairn to Gleneagles to be via Aberdeen and maybe down the coast road.

Thanks for any advice :thumbs up:

Nairn to Gleneagles, head to Tomintoul, over the Lecht towards the A93 then down to Perth that way. Or do that from Pitlochry to Nairn, then either down the coast or Cairn O'Mount through Fettercairn

If you head for the coast and find yourself near Alford, I'd love to see 1511

If you can get 10 mins free you can take it for a spin......but then again, it ain't really going to cut it alongside a Ferrari :frown:

Will pm my mob No prior coming up.

Some random thoughts about where you're staying:

Pitlochry - Edradour distillery well worth a visit, the smallest one in Scotland so more 'boutique' than the big ones
- the fish ladder at the dam is worth a walk to see

Nairn - Culloden battlefield has had a new visitor centre built, a fascinating place
- round the corner from the battlefield are the Clava cairns, 3000 year old burial mounds
- we stayed at the Braeval hotel in Nairn recently, a decent restaurant with a cracking pub attached with an excellent range of beers

Possibly one joining for trip from Glenshee (if I have the name right) plus a trip to Alford Post Office.
Anyone else?

A great drive today from Pitlochry to Culloden.

Drove over the Cairngorms via The Lecht and Tomintoul.

Odd shower kept popping up so road was damp but managed a bit of spirited stuff now and then :-)

Off to Alford PO tomorrow as Gordon wants to see the car. To Gleneagles from there via Cairn O'Mount and Fettercairn.

As you said Craig, could've been much worse :D

To be honest, anyone coming up here expecting good weather this time of year needs their head looking at.........our aim was just to have a relaxing break with some good roads to drive on.....and it's being achieved!!

Great drive today.....roads were mainly dry :D

Culloden to Alford via Tomintoul to meet Gordon....good to meet you bud, your Ferrari is wonderful to put it mildly...then on to Gleneagles via Cairn O'Mount and Fettercairn......stunning roads and stunning views!!

Quite funny when arriving at Gleneagles.....up the gravel drive to the portico outside the main entrance....in a MINI impersonating a tractor

Suddenly surrounded by folk there to get your bags and park your car......would've loved a pic of a black 1511 under the portico but thought discretion would be best :D

Anyhow, views from Cairn O'Mount...

.....and, I remember when I used to have red wheels!
