View Full Version : Removing builders dust

Our neighbor has had mono block paving installed over the past week, during which they had to cut hunners of brick blocks with a Stihl Saw, which inevitably resulted in a huge dust cloud which made it's way onto my cars and has covered them in dust.

I know this stuff will be like sandpaper on the paintwork and I'll need to be bloody careful in removing it. Was thinking of the following process, but feel free to chime in with a better suggestion...

Power wash rinse
Snow foam
power wash rinse again
shampoo wash with mf wash mit
Low pressure rinse with sheeting water from open hose end.

What's everyone's thoughts?

As above but I would use a deep pile lambs wool mitt as it has more pile to let any dirt go away into it and be further away from the paint surface (if that makes sense)

Unfortunately, I don't possess a deep pile lambs wool mitt.

Also use a 2 bucket method.
1 bucket soap solution
And second with just clean wArm water

So basically go from car to the clean water, clean wash mitt, then into soap bucket.

Yeah, sorry Marky, I didn't mention the two bucket method because it's a default for me anyway.

That's not good - yeah you've got the right process ... As Ian says deep pile lambs wool is best :)

Ah ok. Just ignore me then lol. I would pretty much do whar has already been said, plus very lightly over the paintwork.

I'm pretty sure car parts in Gala sell meguiars stuff and they will likely have the meguiars lambs wool mitt.

Bad builders...they should have used dust suppression , HSE is quite clear on it ,you have good advice and all will be well ,just a pity it happened in the first place

Yeah Andy as the others have said just make sure that the cars are well soaked before putting a mitt near them .. You'll be ok with the method you've chosen the dust if any will build up around door checks, etc when you start blasting it so be careful at bits around the edges ;)

Brian, what if I told you I didn't see a single set of eye protection all week and one of the guys was wearing Nike trainers while using the Stihl Saw? :frown::frown:

Great stuff, thanks for the tip. I'll head in today and get one before doing the convertible. :thumbs up:

Keep the MF mitt for doing the fabric hood of the convertible.

No Maguires in Car Parts 4U. :frown: and Halfords don't stock their lambs wool mitt either. :frown: will just have to be careful.

But the guys are back cutting away again today. I thought they had finished but obviously not. No point in washing the cars properly until they are done and gone. :frown::frown:
