Never been with the mini, but I have taken my MX-5 round it on a number of occasions. A superb sprint track, but there's a couple of bits where there's not quite enough run off for my liking. Great as an introduction to tracking your car as only one car is permitted on track at a time. Best bit about Kames was the blast down the A70 from Edinburgh :thumbs up:

No matter which direction you're coming from or going to Muirkirk it's a cracking road. The A70 is a faster road nicely laid out too ( I used it every day on my commute to Glasgow so I know every bend from Cumnock to the M74 inside out) but fun wise I think the B743 Strathaven road just has the lead with it being a bit more of a handful.

Way back in the 80's I did a 'track day' at Kames with the 'West of Scotland Mini Owners Club' (now well defunct I think...), in my Mini 1000 HLE (tuned 1275 fitted).
It was good fun and probably the only track I could've got away with drum brakes! If I remember rightly I got 'FTD' (by a very small margin) over a very nice LHD 1275 Innocenti. We wanted to do it again, but lots of new Health & Safety stuff had kicked in requiring stuff like emergency medical cover in case of accidents etc, so we never got back. Ah, memories... I even have it on VIDEO (no smartphones back then) somewhere.

Pity 'YouTube' hadn't been invented! The wee Minis looked & sounded good. I had just replaced my straight-through big bore pipe with an RC40 system as I was going deaf :shut up:
The 1275 with the big pipe was as loud (if not louder) than my R53 JCW 210 with the Playmini. The RC40 was much quieter, but still sounded sweet and probably made better power. Something about a noisy Mini/MINI though

Kames is a fun track I've done it in a few cars in the past. Generally you run one car and do 3 timed laps then come off and re queue for another go :)
It's very easy to get carried away and push too hard though, seen a few cars hit the tyres !
Couple of pics :)

Club GTi (VW) did a day at Kames in the early 00's
My lasting memories were a mint Mars Red Mk1 brought on a trailer & a 91 convertible with less than 8K on the clock that VW had offered to by back from the (original) owner.
On the track a modified Polo G40 blew away the lot :yes nod:
A great day out but the track ain't for the feint hearted :motoring:

Think twisty single-track Highland road, minus the sheep :motoring: and the coaches/caravans.

Been on it with countryman and an mg midget, its not a fast track, very twisty but it's a great laugh.

"We"? There was no "we" about it! You did all the work if I remember correctly :-)
But yes, that was pre blower. Don't think I have any footage of it on Kames with the supercharger attached. Fondest memories of Kames are actually when the TVR Cerbera was pushed to the limit round the track. That was certainly a sight to behold!

Come on now Si don't be modest, I'm pretty sure you made the tea ! LOL
Yeh I remember the Cerbera, Cant for the life of me remember the guys name though, John perhaps ? I remember he used to attend pretty much every track day going in that car and finally killed it at knockhill !
