View Full Version : Mini Clan's Thistle Run - Sunday 25th May 2014
AndyP & Lenore
28th April 2014, 07:21 PM
NMS already has an event organised for this date: Knockhill Modified Live (http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?24955-Knockhill-Modified-Live-25th-May-2014)
But for those who don't fancy the Knockhill Live event, there is a huge Mini run on that day. It's the annual Thistle Run, organised by the Mini Clan. This is a mixed run, so there will be loads of classic Mini's and a few new MINI's. It's always a great route - this year they are going from Newtongrange to Eyemouth. From past Thistle Run's, there are usually about 150 Mini/MINI's there. Big run!
I see from Facebook that Duncan Stewart, Neil Hayes (Trigger) and Stewart Robertson are all going, and we have just signed up as well. Anyone else not going to the Knockhill event, but still looking for a MINI excursion, you need to register and pay (£16.75) at the Mini Clan web site here: Link to register on the Mini Clan web site (http://miniclan.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=260&Itemid=40)
Also, if you're going, why not post up here to let us all know.

Sure....
How about the Shell Petrol station in Newtongrange? Clicky linky to the map (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/A7/@55.8570971,-3.0653134,19z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x4887be88999013fd:0x512b7 e9857a5f10a?hl=en)
How about meeting at 9.45am ish?
The run starts from the Mining Museum 1 minute up the road and that would give us about 30 or 40 mins to look around the other MINI's / mini's.

Trigger.... Change of plan for us, sorry. We're not going up the A7 now. Tomorrow's weather forecast is pretty wet, so if we go up the A7 the car will be manky as hell by the time we get there.
Now planning on going up the A68 and getting fuel in Tesco's Dalkieth. Clicky linky here for the map. (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/55%C2%B052'54.3%22N+3%C2%B005'14.2%22W/@55.881762,-3.08728,15z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0?hl=en)
Not sure what route you would take, but do you want to meet up at the Tesco's filling station instead of Shell Garage?

Just home. Braw day. It's a great route the Mini clan use for that run. Started off overcast with black clouds overhead, but 5 mins out of Dalkieth the sun came out and we had glorious weather for the rest of the day. Some cracking examples of classic Mini's on the run, and without a word of a lie, the absolute BEST of the BEST was our Ian King's gorgeous red Mini 500. In fact, he had a slip on his windscreen saying he was a winner, but we didn't stay for the prize giving so I don't know what he won. Would love to know!
I'll stick some pics up.

Cracking day out again! Top Marks to the Clan for another great Thistle Run! Great roads, great folks, great cars.. and even cracking weather - a load of cash raised or charity too!:thumbs up:
Well done again Ian on winning, you Cooper looked awesome.. I need another old one to fill my garage ;)
Lots of spotless old classics, a few good New Minis too, and a good few seriously modded classics too, mostly VTec or Vauxhall twin-cam :D:D
There really are some nice Z-cars examples out there now! WANT!
Feel for the guy at Hermiston Gate roundabout tho. Brand New Z-cars conversion, engine in the back and rear-drive - sounds like he got a bit carried away on the roundabout and ended up backwards into the verge and barriers - and that was before he even got to the start of the run :sad::sad:
We got the rain as well Andy, but it was on the bypass at Edinburgh, it was a proper monsoon, so bad that one lane was closed off with massive tailbacks. The closed lane was just one massive loch
We spent a load of the run with the main bunch, tootling round the countryside, but after an unscheduled 'comfort break' we had a good 10 miles of empty road while we caught up with the cars in front just outside Eyemouth.. THAT was fun! ;)
Here's a couple of pics from the phone, more on the camera when I get round to uploading..

I think if I had one of the z-cars I would also end up facing the wrong way at a roundabout / corner. I followed it for a while and it was both quick and a handful.
A clubman 1275GT would do me nicely and already worked out I have space at side of the house for a stand alone shed / garage to store it in. Helen is talking about 2 kids needing to go to Uni in next few years and the fact I may not have a job shortly and what about that new kitchen but I think these are just small details 😄

Great photos everyone, a reminder of a cracking day out. So many great minis it's impossible to pick a favourite - I did like the v-tech one but Helen doesn't :-)
I thought we were going to be washed away coming home round Edinburgh but my wee classic did us proud, never missing a beat.
Congratulations Ian, well deserved
