Pages : [1] 2

Hey mini buddies, going to organise a loch ness run, im thinkin of meeting up somewhere near inverness then doing a tripp into inverness and then to circle the loch ness with a wee stop at Urquhart Castle (think thats how you spell it) i've been told it would be a great run, with some twisty roads, im going up to inverness to do some research on it. i was proposing a date of September 19th. Bonnie Scotlands original date.

Lets get a good turn out for my first organised run people.

Whos all up for that?

Details of Grub

so far i think i can make this judgement:

i can increase the number if its more than 25 easily

25 so far

Pizza Hut (01463 223344):
1) ME !!!!! (plus 3)
2) JULZ + ROB
3) BDM + 1
4) CHECKGIRL + 1
5) DUNCAN + HELEN
6) FIONA + 1
7) SEAN + 1
8) NENAH + 1
9) SLEEPYRASCAL
10) KINGHORN + 1
11) KIRSTY
12) NENAH + 1
13) EDDIE
14) X30YES

Here's my proposed plan:
-all meet at Inverness Retail and Business Park (the place were the Warner Bro's Cinema is)
-head into and through the town (will give detailed route instructions)
-connect onto the A82
-stop at Urquhart Castle (get some ace pics of yer mini, never know Nessie might decide to pop up and say Hi!!)
-continue along the A82 to the bottom of Loch Ness into FORT AUGUSTUS
-cross bridges there and onto the "B-Roadies" - B862(YAY!)
-there supposedly a waterfall just at the begginning of the B862, maybe a good place to stop. Will confirm once i do the run myself
-about 1/3 back up the Loch connect on the B852, this takes right onto the Loch Coast basically! (We dont want no mini water adventures!)
-Head right in along the coast into Inverness then stop again at the Inverness Business and Retail Park. Depending on how long this run takes and starting times, maybe get a chance to go to the cinema.

Jim am i right in saying that the warner brothers cinema is at the Business and Retail Park? yeah if we could have it to ourselves or a section of it, that would be ace!! Cheers, see what you can do

Jim Mackay
1st September 2004, 10:09 PM
Yes, the Warner cinema, now called Vue, is in the park. I work in Cowan House which is near the cinema and between it and the Snowgoose Inn (the Inn is on the main road). Our car park is self contained and a little bit away from the main shopping car park, but the big car park is likely to be busy on a Saturday morning. I'll check out the chances of getting it.

Hi Eggy
I sent you an off-line e-mail a while back but it looks as if you may not have received it. I was suggesting that the route back to Inversneck might include the awesome Inverfarigaig 'corkscrew'. Those of a nervous disposition or who suffer from vertigo can of course carry straight on to Dores. Warning: the road at the top has some potholes and grass growing up the middle (although it is a public road). Those with over-big fragile alloys and low spoilers may be better sticking to the main drag.
Cheers
Jim

Eggy7496
17th September 2004, 04:34 PM
Jim i'll take your advice and keep clear of the bad roads

Eggy7496
17th September 2004, 04:35 PM
can you give me some info on and where the "corkscrew" area is?

Jim Mackay
17th September 2004, 07:31 PM
Its a single track road which leads from Inverfarigaig on the shore of Loch Ness south of Dores up the cliff via six or eight very tight hairpin bends. It is a very spectacular piece of public road which you have to hope you don't meet anything on. It leads over the top of the hill to meet up with the 'back' road to Dores. It features quite often on road rally routes and other car club outings. Google may throw up some references.

Eggy7496

Guys and Gals, I did the run on saturday!! ITS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! its thee best roads i've ever been on, especially when its wet lol, that run is full of fun! (a wee rhyme there, hehe) i will say suffered a bad case of understeer with the slippery conditions. i had a mate (Co-Driver) that jotted everything down i said as i was on the run, thought it would be handy to take notes to let you guys know the bad bits and the good bits and things to watch out for. Will i post these notes on here so you can see them? or just let you see them on the day? im fine with anything. I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (can u tell i'm excited?, hehe)

Eggy7496

also just to confirm there are no pot holes, the only thing thats bad is the cattle grids, about 8 of them on the journey back, i didnt notice the first one and went over it at 50mph!! i didnt realise it was there my mini coped no problem so i doubt there will be problems, however i will be slowing down for them to be on the safeside

The Dogfather
20th September 2004, 10:45 PM
I speed up for them, you hardly notice them that way. Although you have to be careful if they are on a corner and it's wet!

whats the vote on the castle? would u like to go in? there is a price that i will find out about. the only thing is if its not a nice it we wont get the best of it plus not entirely sure about leaving 20 minis in a row for a while especially when it will be full of tourists and kids and im sure they will be very inquisative.

i was originally planning to stop in the car park for a 10mins for a wee yap and a stretch o the leggies?

What u guys think?

I'm not sure if Sleepys post was for or against the castle idea. Difficult to tell as he could be telling either me or Eric to boil your heed depending on which way you look at it.

> Castles? Dull? Away and boil yer heed! ---- Pro castle anti BDM comment.

or

> Castles... (are) Dull... Away and boil yer heed ------ Anti castle pro BDM comment.

Urquhart castle very interesting (visited last year) but think it's best just to use it as a photo stop on a mini run but I think you have to pay to get into the vistors centre (shop / cafe / toilets). Don't forget to include pee stops in your route! ;)

Harry Feckin Ramsdens! God No!!!!

They all make crap fish n' chips. Ask one of the local MINI owners for a suggestion of where to eat.

However, I'll eat at HRs if there's no where else, I'll bring a paper bag for my head so no one can see me.

ok people!! Provisionally booked pizza hut in the retail & business park on the saturday for around 4pm, i have to call to confirm within 3 weeks of the event. Pizza hut dont take bookings but he has been kind to me - with a slight bit or persuading by myself, lol. he would get us right into the conservatory which overlooks the car park so we can watch our babies. provisionally booked for 25 people. check this though - the staff change ove at 4 so he would make sure we had staff in advance!! woohoo! excellent treatment.

If you want some place out of town, the Kingswells park and ride carpark is always empty and handy for most, and close to the Inverness road.

DNV122
9th November 2004, 07:53 AM
Eggy & Guys,

I'm going to make it (just me) - assuming there is space.

I have a request :p:

Instead of going via the A96, is anyone game to head out on my favourite road ?

- Leave and take the B9119 west to Echt onto Strathdon - over the Lecht, then Nethybridge, up the A9 to Inverness. A £20 bet to charity that, although this is 5 miles longer (107 v 102 miles), this is quicker and more fun than the dull A96.

Based on Autoroute, both routes are going to take more than 2 hrs - especially the A96 on a Saturday AM (unless John is leading with his Silver Cruise Missile)

Anyone up for this ? I'll bring the maps....

Latest BBC forecast for Saturday is gales and snow - bring it on.

The Dogfather
9th November 2004, 05:36 PM
Snow and Gales cool! John you still fancy heading over the Cabrach?

Eggy,

Is the route directions for the Inverness part the same as they are on your first post or are there any alterations. Just want to make sure no problems for my Mini may take a wee run one night this week to see how fast we can go before the tyres start rubbing the body kit.

Nenah
9th November 2004, 08:45 PM

Cheers

Ok people - I've spoken with Northsound Radio who are keen for us to turn up at 9.00am (which is when the car wash starts) to the studio and park our cars out the front which will help create a bit of attention. Car wash is £5 per car. Northsound will take some publicity photos and post them on their website. They are also keen to get one of us to represnet NMS to go on air for a few minutes to have a chat with one of the presenters about who we are, what we do and give the NMS club a bit of a plug and to thank us for supporting cash 4 kidz. So whose up to represent NMS on-air then? Martin, Paul...?

It looks like most of you on this thread are keen for the 9am round up - as Martin suggests, we could meet at Duthie Park at 8.45 and cruise up to the radio station for the car wash/photos/publicity and then head off for there to the Lock Ness Run (if you are going).

Its a great chance to do something for charity, will give the club some free promotion to local mini owners who dont know about us and, of course, get your car washed!!

A good turn out would be awesome! We could announce that NMS members are the mini owners flashing and waving to other owners around town - spreading the mini cheer!

Martin - over to you to organise the schedule.

Could be snow on the higher bits by tomorrow! Temperature in Turriff 6.5c @ 8.00am and dropping rapidly! In fact it's dropped 5 degrees in the last 4 hours.

SNOW!! YIKES!!! just called the Dores Inn to find out what the weather is like but no answer

just found out some last minute info on a website::

Fort Augustus to Dores
A worthwhile detour from Fort Augustus is to take the B862/852 up the east shore of Loch Ness on a mostly single-track road that skirts the loch for much of its length to the village of Dores. It's a much quieter and more scenic route than the busy A82 and follows General Wade's original (and very straight) military road which linked Fort Augustus with Fort George. Though it makes a more interesting alternative to the more popular A82 route from Inverness to Fort Augustus, it's best done from south to north, if you have the time.

The road winds its way up into rugged hills before returning to the lochside at Foyers, where there's accommodation at E-F Intake-House, Tel. 01456- 482258, open April-October; and the small independent youth hostel F Foyers House, Tel. 01456-486623. It's worth stopping here to see the impressive waterfall where the River Foyers plunges into Loch Ness. To get there, follow the steep (and slippery) track down from opposite the shops.

Three miles further north, at Inverfarigaig, is the spooky and sinister Boleskine House, once home of Alastair Crowley, who is said to have practised devil worship here. In the 1970s the house was bought by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, but sold some years later after the tragic death of his daughter. Those of a nervous disposition may wish to pass on quickly and continue to the little village of Dores, at the northeastern end of the loch, where you can enjoy a good pint of ale and some decent grub at the Dores Inn.

You can then continue to Inverness, or return via the beautiful hill road that leads up to Loch Mhor and back to Fort Augustus via the Stratherrick valley. From Errogie, at the northern end of Loch Mhor, there's a dramatic section of road that winds down to the loch through a series of tight, twisting bends, reminiscent of an Alpine pass, and great for cyclists. There are also some interesting marked woodland trails around Errogie.

Eggy, I think we're all going to Duthie Park - Not sure how we'll get to Inverness but if John's involved it'll involve lots of very fast corners!

Update now 4.5c in Turra and just had some sleet!:blackeye::D

ok, so will we just make up a route for inverness when we meet in the morning?

a good way to kick off is heading out the banff road but cut onto the fintray road then out to kintore way! some excellent corners there!

Just remember to get to Inverness in one piece.;)

For your info: the B852 B862 B851 were covered and I mean covered in leaves and pine needles on Wednesday night. Last night it was blowing a gale. Just a thought

John said he may have to work on Saturday morning but is trying to get the job sorted for tonight as he really wants to join the run - he'll definately be at Duthie Park for Northsound thing at 8.45 so we'll know if he's coming on the run then. So my plan is to leave with the convoy from Duthie at 10.30am if John isnt leading a side-run to Inverness. See you all tomorrow bright and early!!!:D:D
