If you need a 5 door car, why not just buy a Golf? How many variants can you spin on a car who's very name means small!?

I just think if you need 5 doors, there's plenty of choice without a stretched mini. I know BMW like their niches, but this is stretching it IMO

you are more than likely correct ,but as with most things if they (BMW) build multi car types they will sell them ,gone are the days that BMW are niche builders (including MINI) its hard not to spot BMW/MINI on the road these days.

I know, I know their reasons. Just that badge engineering disappoints me that's all. It's an awfully crowded sector to sell a 5 door hatch in, and I wonder how much more fun to drive it would be than a Focus for example

Just to throw a bit of a curve ball. It would be great for me. I'm not fussed about the extra space in the back but for fixing a car seat onto an Isofix base it would be super handy rather than having to maneuver the seat through a tight space and twist your back in all sorts of directions. But that said, it's about the only bit of practicality I can think of!

...but if you dont like the Countryman styling or the bulk of it then they are offering a middle ground solution.

They are quite literally thinking of everything they can possibly make.
Must have good biscuits in their brainstorming meetings.

True, but after seeing the new engine line up for the F56, especially the Cooper, it makes the engine performance of the Countryman/Paceman look a bit poor. I hear what you are saying, after all, we are a family who has a hatch and a Countryman for the little one, but on the odd day where the wife is away with her Countryman and I need to pop the little one in the car to go get milk or something, having that extra door makes it so much easier. It's such a struggle to get a baby in a car seat into the back of the Mini, even I struggle with it due to the weight and tight squeeze.
I did say it was a curve ball after all :D :thumbs up:

As we have seen from the pic's this is in fact a hatch. So what bracket does the new Clubman
That has also been seen. It has twin rear boot doors and a bigger boot to the hatch I take it. But if you've decided you can't live with two doors and need the four why would you not just say right may as well get the bigger boot as well and go clubbie.
Thing I feel right now is the clubbie can be just a fantastic looking as the hatch in the R56, not too sure it will be the same in the F56.

Same car with different rear windows, doors and lights?
I wonder how many people are put off the Clubman by its double doors? Sure, current owners think they are desirable, but the timid will say "they're not usual, are they?" and the snobs will say "they look like they come from a plumber's van", so maybe Mini want to hoover up those buyers?

I like the clubbie rear doors as they are a bit different from everything else. In some cases I prefer it to opening the hatch up.
So will this just be a four door hatch the same size as the new clubbie then. As ever Mini are covering to many bases or trying to please everyone. The one thing is the R56 Clubbie was distinctive now it will look like the four door hatch.

If you look closely at the bottom photo, you can see that it has two hinged doors split in the middle just like the Clubman, but it styled to look more conventional - definitely trying for the cake and eating too.....
There are some other photos lurking somewhere of the same prototype viewed from the direct rear which clearly show the two doors. Ah -found them:

They should have put the doors on the rear of the Clubbie F series like the one on the R opening backwards but I guess that would mean a different shell and too much cost.

Existing clubbie is great for getting kids seats in and out, I find it easier than the Jag. Open both doors, through seats in back, kneel down on floor inside suicide door and attached them to seat belts.....simples!...
Then stand back and salute as your "little princesses" get into the back like a pair of devas!!

Little princesses are an optional extra although I'm sure MINI have a package for that ;)
