Hey Howard. As I missed Cullen last year, I promised myself I would go this year (05).

14th January 2005, 11:25 AM
Hi Folks
Unfortunate news about the clash of dates but the Arbroath event timing has been in place since August last year and was dictated by external influences. i.e. The G8 summit in Gleneagles and of course the availability of the Red Arrows. Tayside police could not allow the event to go ahead on the same week as last year due to their involvement within the G8. The RAF only had that weekend available also. Really sorry, there's nowt I can do. However I feel there are enough of us to make both events a total success.
To quote John - "There are a lot of people that are looking for a family day out and the Cullen run is not really a family day out but the Arbroath event is". I have to agree and I believe both runs/events will be well attended by NMS. It's just a shame that people have to choose now...
No one need be sorry if they can't make a particular run - after all it's all about what YOU want to do not what we'd like you to do.

14th January 2005, 11:37 PM
Hello again.
I must be honest and upfront here and say - when I posted our intention to have the 2nd Seafront event I was overwhelmed by the response by yourselves in both the support for last years event and the initial commitment to this years. On this basis in early December I approached John Clarks in Dundee and asked if they would be prepared to support us again. They did ask if NMS would be back again to which I informed them I had 30+ notes of interest already. Russ Swift was booked and John Clark agreed to support on the same basis as last year.(Russ was paid for by MINI & John Clarks 50/50). Due to the migration (seven in two days) to the Cullen run I feel that as more of the "drivers" in NMS read they now have a choice to make, my reputation with John Clarks may be at risk and I feel I have no alternative but to go back to them and advise them that there may not be the same support from NMS.
I am fully aware the Cullen run was one of the first runs for NMS and usually takes place mid to end July and is "must do" for many. I must admit I have to agree with Scottiecoop's comments as there are 5 weekends in July this year...
Please do not take this as sour grapes by me.
Please do not take this a ploy by me to entice you to this event or to have the Cullen run moved - I have to be honest to all.... the last thing I want here is another argument
The MINI was made to be driven and enjoyed. I am just disapointed that you now have to choose:(
Wul
15th January 2005, 12:19 AM
Shoppie - put me down as a maybe please.
As for Cullen - the fact that you have to go to page 2 of the meets section on NMS to find a locked thread for Cullen 2005 doesn't help matters - I realise John wishes to maintain the thread on MINI2 but a lot of us hardly ever go over to the MINI2 meets section so that has probably been a major player in the confusion.
Perhaps a kind mod could sticky the cullen thread and add the date to the title to assist those still to post interest in either runs?
minidriver#1
15th January 2005, 12:32 AM
was there absolutely no way to have Cullen on a different date? what run had a definate date first? i think it was Arbroath but i might be wrong.
Burple
15th January 2005, 12:36 AM
Looking at the amount of interest for both, It would seem that both events could be still very well attended!
Remember that other people will have commitments that may limit their ability to attend either one of these events too... And both are not to everyone's personal taste.. Don't give in yet! :D:D:D

Just caught up with all this. What a muddle, as we deffo wanted to go to both.
Thinking out aloud!
Could we go to Arbroath during the day and stop over with the Cullen Crew for the socials?
Where is the Cullen stop-over, are we really thinking about camping?
Which town has been chosen for the onslaught, is it Grantown on Spey again?
I accept Arbroath can't be changed and that Cullen has always been the same weekend, but how far down the planning is Cullen 2005 John?
Would a change of date suit more people than a clash of dates.
Does this not need a bit more discussion, as both these outings are very popular and a very different format.
Can't / don't want to make a decision yet.

The date for the Cullen Run is arranged around an english bank holiday so the englandshire folks have plenty of time to get back home. (well thats how it appears from skimming the ENORMOUS thread on M2) If that is the case it may be difficult to change. It also give people a choice of event to attend.

Perhaps it is, perhaps it is not. I dont think either date can be moved now they are arranged, and as far as I see its not the end of the world. Im sure Howard cant change the date due to amount of planning already undertaken. By the same token John has went for roughly the same weekend that this run has been undertaken for the last 2 years. Im sure people attending either event will have fun.

Howard, congrats on your 25th. Ours is on 17th March so I know what you've been through. If it had been murder, we would have been free 6 years ago!!
As the Arbroath Spectacular is a big display, what about having a wee competition, something like, "Favourite Mini of the Day". Every NMS car that turns up gets one vote (not their own car) and votes for the Mini they would most like to have, taking into account mods, condition and style. I'm sure I can find a "Tacky Trophy", that could be used on the day. Wul's sponsors might want to throw in some NTX deluxe super pile mit?? What does everyone think?

Then you'd be best to convoy down from Aberdeen, usual meet there is Duthie Park, there will be a convoy thread appearing nearer the time i'm sure, from there you'll meet up with my meet place, still to be confirmed, but, most probably the castle centre at Brechin for a short blast through to Arbroath to join the main group :)

Sorry for not being here:p This years show is taking up a lot of time with meetings, meetings, meetings, and more *^%$&%*! meetings. But i'm here now.
Things are progressing very well and hopefully this years show will be another to remember - but not for weather reasons:p:p:p
We have Helicopter pleasure Flights this year from the park (much cheapness)!!
The RAF are bringing 3 helicopters now, the Navy - 1, and the Army - 1... might be a tad windy:D:D
The convoy will depart from the Industrial Estate next to Focus DIY at 11:pm sharp. I will upload a map before the 1st of July. That gives us around 30mins(I hope) to get to the venue and park-up. Russ will begin his first demo then.
More details from the website www.seafront.org.uk
ps - check out the pic of the coooool "tiger" Puma Heli on the site- it will be there!!:D:D

Hi Claire, I think you are from the Dunfermline area, I will be organising a convoy from Stirling, probably stopping at Perth and hopefully meeting up with more there and then onto Arbroath, so unless you want an extra wee run to stirling in the morning I am sure some of the East Coast'rs will be coming over the bridge and you could meet them at Halbeath?? GAJ/Wul/Weefossy?? are you going that way?

By all means, organise it to get to Montrose, I'm gonna drop the Brechin Castle Centre, I'll advise a suitable meet point in Montrose depending on numbers ;)
That way you'll be able to blast tootle down the A92

Paul, forgive me for being thick/blind but where is the info for leaving from Duthie Park? Quite fancy going down to Arbroath if there is still space as not been on a run since i got my own mini. Were you the one up front on the Baxters run at the start of the year? If you were, i was with my pal Ash that day in her black mini. Cheers, Shaz

Howard,
Can you add Lenore & I to the list?
We've been holding off to make sure we have staff cover. It's still not absolutely cast-in-stone, but we're 99% sure we will be able to make it. Missed last year, so really looking forward to this year.
Cheers,
