Hi all, how are we. So, i might have a few spare shekels at the end of the month and was thinking of a brake upgrade. The gt tuning was appealing as i can do fronts first( they seem to do most of the work) and sort the rears as soon as. Not sure how much extra pennies there will be but does anyone have any comments, or other suggestions?

I have just fitted mtec to my GP drilled and grooved with mintex pads and a black coating

They are fantastic ;) and came in at £225 inc delivery for front & back disks and pads

What do you want a full new brake set up or new discs and pads?

You have an r53 right, if you want better braking standard r56 s callipers would work wonders. Plus some carbotech pads and nitex discs would make a very noticeable difference. I run carbotech pads think they're x10 or something like. Canny remember what discs I have but I noticed a massive change, then fitted good ridge brake lines too that improved it all on my r56

^^ what he said. If you've got an R53, upgrade to the R56 S setup pronto as the stock R53 brakes are inadequate

Are you fitting the brakes yourself? If not Parkdale garage on the road out to Cargenbridge are good. That's where I took my Mini to have work on my discs and pads done.

Probably fit them myself but thanks for the recommendation. Thanks for the advice, anyone know of any r56 calipers available or where to try? will i also be needing new hoses or any other fittings?

You will need the hoses better off going for a beaded set tho ;) eBay or total mini is always a good place to start ;)

As I was upgrading my new SD from Cooper to S brakes (daftly, Mini only fit the SD with Cooper brakes), I thought I had better buy these components new and they cost £470 in total. So half price for, what?, half-worn seems fair, if no the deal of the century.

Thanks for all the advice, do i buy r56 or r53 brake hoses? Am looking at the hel ones on ebay.http://www.1320.co.uk/hel-performance-front-brake-lines. Would these be suitable?

So brakes are on. A few problems with rusted fittings etc but nothing major. Feels much better and have more confidence in them. Top mod.

So the car has just had its mot and i have advisorys for the front discs and the rear pads so they need changing. Might as well do the front pads as well but the rear discs are ok. Any recommendations?

EBC yellow or Mintex 1144 get a good rep, or if you want the best you can get, Carbotech XP8 with Nitrac discs

Carbotech x8 or x10. The x10 are more track orientated but both are exceptional

Just a head's up see when you first run in your disks don't put the handbrake on for the first few times after driving as the pads will stick to the coating :) and will be a pain to free off again have to say i think i will be getting them for my clubman when needed :)

Just a heads up if you're not aware...

Carbotechs produce high dust levels.

So parts are on. Love the new noise and car feels somehow smoother when accelerating. New brakes are a big improvement.
