Ive got a 60 plate Mini Cooper S, I'm just leading the car, how does it work for servicing and so on do I have to take it to mini or can I get a local garage to do it as long they use mini genuine parts?

Most cars come with MINI TLC which is a 5 year / 50,000 mile service plan included. Check you don't have it already cos if you do, take it to the MINI dealer and its free. It's very unusual not to have tlc on most cars.

But, if you've no TLC then it's really your choice, if you still have manufacturers warranty then yes, providing you use genuine parts you can use an alternate garage
