Looking to get one for the Cooper and it doesnt have one already.

What IS that cable thats attached to it and would I really need it for something????
Is it ok to get it and not use that cable??

Cable not required for you.

They used to have this plugged into the stereo in some cars so that you could put your iPod in the armrest ;)

So I could still get it and just cut the cable off?
It looks like it should have another part to it to fit to the car, or will it fit as it is?

I seem to remember that arm rest comes as a kit with extra pieces and small plastic parts

I'm with Gismo, I thought it came as a kit... (ie other parts with it)

Yes, quite a few parts.

So you would need (approx dealer prices):
Item 17 - the alternative cupholder into which the base of the armrest fits, £18;
Items 18 - left and right sides of the cupholder, £10 each;
Item 3 - the long base plate under the heandbrake (you will currently have the short one, item 2), £18;
Item 20 - padding, £6;
and probably some fasteners - something like £65 in addition to the armrest.

The parts list (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=SY72&mospid=54605&btnr=51_6288&hg=51&fg=35) appears to suggest that a different console, item 8, is required which would be a shock at about £59, but I don't think it is different.

Fitting the armrest means removing that handbrake console to fit item 3 into which the armrest base fixes.

So what we're all saying is, I'd be better off getting this http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop.php?action=productshow&id=708 ?

Maybe this one is a possibility - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/other-interior-styling-accessories/isotta-luxury-armrest

This is Mini's armrest intended to be retrofitted (the one above is intended for factory use) - about £150 from a dealer.

Borvad .. What model is the Cooper you have. I have an original one that was fitted for minutes (literally 7 miles) that ill be selling shortly if ours interested.

It's an original MINI one still boxed and like I said was in the car for about 7 miles. I've got the receipt for it I paid £156 (inc VAT) but I'll take a sensible offer on it as I've had a change of plan (I'll even throw in the rubber mat for it too (£7)

I intend to live forever ... So far so good !
