With the Oscars due to celebrate 50 years of Bond I thought I open a thread to see whether NMSers are as bid a fan of Bond as I am.

Which of the six actors who’ve played Bond is the Best bond?

Sean Connery
George Lazenby
Roger Moore
Timothy Dalton
Pierce Brosnan
Daniel Craig

What’s your top three Bond films?

Mine are Skyfall, Casino Royale and Goldfinger. A special mention to Quantum of Solace for a short yet amazing car chase as well.

Goldfinger, You only live twice, and I hope Skyfall ( but for now Casino Royale) as I’ve not seen it yet.

Bond: "Ejector seat? You're joking!"
Q: "I never joke about my work, 007."

Live And Let Die is my ring tone:thumbs up:

Connery just oozed class and was for me the ultimate Bond

Live and Let Die
Casino Royale
Skyfall

It's not quite fair to pick the last two based on the cinematics are way better nowadays, but..........i picked them anyway

DB5 With Bond in it on Film approaching Buachaille Etive Mor- whats not to like! You either get bond movies or you don’t! Mate who emits hates Bonds text when his family came out the Cinema and just said “Wow” so it cant be half bad if he liked it.

I’ve never watched George Lazenby “On Her Majesty's Secret Service” and don’t plan too. Never a bond Movie in my book but I could be being unkind. A bit like the terrible remake of Thunderball !!! “Never Say Never Again” Shocking cheap and nasty! Timothy Dalton was incredibly dull as bond and too serious and can gladly pass his version by.

But enjoying Daniel Craig hard hitting version so far although Quantum of Solace needed watched twice to appreciate it! First time I was distracted a bit and ended up thinking what’s this about again!

OHMSS is one of the best Bond stories and I’d love to see it remade with a modern twist. I think Craig is awesome, for me he just shades Connery who was a bit ropey in his later films - Diamonds are Forever. My list in order of preference: -

Craig, Connery, Brosnan, Dalton, Moore, Lazenby

I’d swap Dalton and Moore around if it was just a couple of Moore films, Live and Let Die and The Spy who Loved Me unfortunately he also made Octopussy and View to a Kill.

Brosnan was another great Bond but Die Another Day was dreadful, Cleese, Madonna and invisible cars FFS. Mind you Halle Berry looked good in that bikini.

I don't really have any recollections of sean as bond, so I'm guessing he didn't make as big an impression as I'd have thought he would have! Roger Moore is my childhood memory but wasn't overly excited by him. It's got to be Daniel Craig for EVERY reason :excited: and I also liked Pierce, he was slick as I remember it

I have a good fact for you  Shirley Eaton who was killed off in Goldfinger by gold paint suffocation....know the one? My Dad had a fling with her ;) She stayed at his Dad's caravan park. Good huh!! There's a lovely signed photo or two of her somewhere. Beautiful woman! :yes nod:

I am not a massive car geek but I was properly excited by the aston in Skyfall :excited:and was gibbering at my mum about it as we came out the cinema!

Who voted for Lazenby I'll hunt you down!!!!!:idunno:

Nice fact about Shirley Eaton and I hope your Dad told you about it every time it was on as thats a cracker. :thumbs up:

I have a mental picture of a young Joanna sitting in front of the TV and getting told….

"See that Girl in the gold paint, I'll tell you when your older" followed by a cheeky wee wink and a Coy smile.

hehe thanks Stew  I don't remember him telling me I just remember it always being known and talked about :D
I have to say I'm always stunned by how beautiful my mum was when she was younger too. Well she still is but properly stunning in her 20s. Proud ;)

I need to look up that Lazenby, haven't got a clue who he is...

Lazenby was a Australian model, god knows how he got the role. He was only known for adverts in the UK and he couldn’t act.

Trouble is that On Her Majesty’s Secret Service should have been brilliant. It even had Diana Rigg as the Bond girl and Telly Savalas as the villain.

I looked him up... no recognition whatsoever!

Paul, you've no idea the argument you've just caused in the Poole household. Lenore doesn't have her own account and disagreed with my choice of best Bond. However, I'll detail her fave films below. And list mine too.

AndyP's best Bond Films: 1) Skyfall. 2) Casino Royale. 3) Goldeneye.

Lenore's best Bond films: 1) Casino Royale. 2) Goldeneye/Skyfall - She can't decide between Goldeneye and Skyfall for 3rd place.

From a thematic point of view the Craig films are so incredibly contemporary, for me I can't look past them. Even Quantum beats any Roger Moore film. But back in 1995 Lenore and I watched Goldeneye at a CEA trade meeting in Edinburgh about 3 months before it was released and it simply blew us away. Very unlikely to happen these days, being able to see a film so far before release.

Connery is still my favourite Bond....

Films have to be Skyfall, Live and Let Die, and Moonraker! :thumbs up:

The Dogfather

Moonraker? That’s one of my least favourites, its like that clip from chewin’ the fat - You’ve taken that too far…….

Mind you I do like some of the lines: -

Hugo Drax - Look after Mr. Bond. See that some harm comes to him.

Hugo Drax - Mr. Bond, you persist in defying my efforts to provide an amusing death for you.

Minister of Defence: - My God, what's Bond doing?
Q (looking away from screen whilst it shows Bond in bed): - It looks like he’s attempting re-entry

Don’t get me wrong Craig is probably the best down to Earth/Hard hitting Bond that has never needed gadgets to assist him. But I grew up with Connery as a kid wanting to drive that DB5 in Goldfinger and that’s a hard impression to shift. For sentimental
reasons Connery will always have the edge.

Now if only we could include Mrs Bond into the mix (Rachel Weisz) for the next Movie.

Ali –Eva Green out the new moves does win me over on the bond Girl front over Barbara Bach. Bond Villains goes to Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Donald Pleasence)

Repost for no reason

Also I just lobbed in the first vote for Carry On Bond specialist Roger Moore, mainly because he was in the first ones I watched as a kid so he is more Bond for me than the others

All we can be thankful is (and I say this with respect to MINI) they got Bond out of the worst bond cars ever in the BMW’s!!!!

The Aston in Casino was probably on screen driving for two minutes if that but it just felt right!
