View Full Version : P0130 fault even after new OEM O2 sensor

My wife's late 2004 R50 recently showed the amber/yellow engine shaped warning light. It has also been hesitating very slightly for a wee while.

I scanned the car and it showed a P0130 fault, pre cat O2 sensor.

I replaced the sensor with a new NGK OEM part, reset the fault code and went for a test drive. No warning light initially, but it still felt a bit hesitant sometimes. I don't wont to over exaggerate this as it's so faint that my wife says she can't feel it, but it is there.

Two days later or so the warning light came on again. Scanned and P0130 fault again. Reset fault, light goes out for a couple of days, but then comes on again.

I've checked lots of forums and this seems a common fault on tuned R50 and R53s, but ours is standard.

I've also checked the terminals on the coil pack as apparently these can corrode and cause similar problems. However these are fine. Also checked the O2 sensor plug and cleaned the terminals, but to no avail.

It has 52k with a full Mini SH and isn't due for another device for 8000 miles.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Sometimes just a clean of the one on the front of the inlet manifold can fix it, but they're not expensive to replace

Thank you, do you use carb cleaner or similar?

Never had a problem with mine thankfully, but I think they just need a wipe
