Smurf is squeak-free. :D
It's only taken 5 months, two visits by the car to Henry Bros, inumerable phone calls, and my hubby paying them a couple of visits in person!
Turns out to have been the front brake pads - apparently there were 'signs of cracking in the brake pad surface'. When asked what causes this, the reply 'we don't know, it's very rare'.
Not to worry, she's fixed now! :D
