Exhausting

Hi guys

Little dilema that i would appreciate your input on. One of the rear boxes on my R53 is blowing from the crimped seal and the other one is bad nick as well, so i have decided to replace both boxes and the middle pipe section. i would prefer to put in a stainless steel exhuast, what i would like to know to is who can recommend to me anyone that can supply and fit a good one for me even if it is a custom fit.

Im in Edinburgh but wont mind travelling a wee bit to get a good exhaust at a good price.

Ooh, time for a Playmini, Miltek or a custom fit job, you might even want to consider the 1 box conversion.
Can't help with places in your area, but, a nice cat back will be a nice upgrade

Most people tend to go for a PlayMINI on an R53 or a JCW exhaust. If your thinking about a custom exhaust try stainless creations in Falkirk they done a great job on my R56 Cooper when I had it and I know they have done ones for Craig and Fiona

I would like a nice throaty sound but not too loud that wakes the neighbours up lol. Excuse my ignorance but i dont know a lot about exhausts, but what do you get with a catback exhaust?? I thought the cat was at the bottom of the manifold

The cat is at the end of the manifold, a cat back replacement is exactly that, from after the cat to the back of the car, perfect for your solution :thumbs up:

Playmini it is then guys. Any tips or advice on the fitting of the playmini exhaust to my 03 plate R53???

If you're doing it yourself give the bolts a spray with WD40 the night before, but, they'll probably snap anyway, so, get a pair of stainless steel replacements.
Don't try to disconnect any of the connections, they'll be rusted solid and i expect you'll be scrapping the exhaust anyway.

Make sure that when you get the new exhaust that the hangers are in the same place, i remember that some were welded in a different place, but, hopefully that problem doesn't exist anymore

What Alan said spray lots of WD40 on them and get stainless ones to replace prob some gun gum to put between the joints

Yeah you have to watch that one. When I moved my cat-back from my 2002 R53 to my 2006 I had to chop and re-weld the hangers to make it fit!
The hangers are out by 90 Deg, why change something like that, I don't know???

As long as you get the right one then it will fit fine just make shure you get the right one for the age of your car ;)

I'm a bit late here, been on holiday - PLAYMINI's the one! I ran a Playmini system with a Manifold and Sports Cat for ages on my R53 JCW 210, best sound ever (although with the tuned motor and Manifold it was a bit on the loud side, but sounded fab and great fun).
