Hi all, looking at removing my Jcw strut brace but unsure about the nuts to put back on in place of the ones coming off. The car came with the brace on it so i am unsure what the originals looked like .
Can anyone shed any light on this.

Thanks
Brian

They're just the standard top mount nuts .. You'll need to probably go to MINI to get a set wouldn't think they'd be too expensive. You can't use the nuts you take off so wait until you get new nuts before taking it off ..

Cheers. Let's hope they have them in stock at dealers, need them before tuesday so as I can take the strut off before it's traded in

Some nuts can be re-used, I've had my JCM one off a few times

The nut I took off to have a look had a shoulder to go through the brace. I would have thought the originals would just be a plain nut that pulls down onto the bodywork

A new set of nuts are peanuts from the dealers. The ones to suit the JCW brace though are about £25-30!!

I work for an engineering company and was wondering if the original nut were something special or just a standard nut ?

From memory it's just a standard but with a collar, the ones for the bace have a slightly smaller collar ;)) (all from memory tho) ;)

Ah, didn't know the JCW ones are different. I'm using the stockers on my JCM one with no issues

The difference between them is so small, I doubt it would ever be a problem ;)

Did you notice if the bottom of the nuts were flat or not? Just curious because the ones fitted to mine have a shoulder to locate inside the brace. Am I right in saying the shoulder should not touch the body and the washer part should pull the brace on tightly to the body. I may just take the brace off and fit a new nut and separate washer to bolt the 3 bolts tight to the body

Ok they are all wrong  the jcw brace nuts have a shoulder and the normal ones are flat at the bottom so yes you need to get new ones to remove the brace :)

IF IN DOUBT FLAT OUT :)

Yeah that's right the standard ones have a flat bottom edge whilst the JCW are tapered so they fit inside the strut brace and hold it in place .. The JCW nuts are £7.24 each
3278
Should use the JCW nuts with the strut brace as it stops it moving .. which could bend the strut top bolts ..

Sorted.
6 new nuts from dealers £4.54 .
Strut brace removed for cleaning, then for sale.

Thanks folks :-)

See simples plus you'll get a couple of quid extra when you include the nuts with your sale of the strut brace (although you should only use them once) ..
