View Full Version : Colour coded wheeel arches

Hi Martin, I made enquiries at specialist cars to get the wheel trims colour coded. They mentioned about £400 to have this done. There would be some saving on paint but this would be minimal since the major cost is labour.
My car is still due in tomorrow but JC not very willing to commit to when I can collect :(. I've told them I think I should have the car by Sat. Hopefully they will get so fed up of me pestering them that they will make sure its ready by then just to get rid of me!!
:D:D:D

Edit: moved to correct forum, MMM

Sheilz,
If you are prepared to wait, cause you'll have to book it in advance, i can advise a local guy in Montrose who will do your car far cheaper than £400
He did mine for £90 including installing the aero side skirts

Magic, I'm often in Montrose/Arbroath area and for that kind of saving I'd be more than happy to wait.:D:D:D:D

Sheilz , dont quote me on this but I think Jordan got his kit fitted and Maxine got her trim sprayed at

Kinghorn Body Shop
Unit 2/4, Blackburn Industrial Estate
Aberdeen , Aberdeenshire AB21 0RX
T: 01224790009

I think Jordan has a mate that works there or something.

What I liked about Maxines apart from the quality of the painting was that the inner door sills etc were colour coded as well. The one I saw done by a dealer (not in Aberdeen true enough), didnt look anything like as nicely done as Maxines.

If you are feeling bored today Sheilz you could try ringing them up and getting a price. Maybe if Jordan makes an appearance he can get us a discount :D

Hi Sheilz,

I got quoted about £400 from JC a few month's back then when I phoned them again to go ahead with it they sent me out a quote which was nearly £600 because of all the clips they had to replace!!

As Martin said I ended up at Kinghorn after recommend' from Jord.

It cost me around the same as JC's original quote but am more than happy with the results and service.

Dropped it off on Monday morning and it was finished by Wednesday afternoon.

I will go for a quote from Kinghorn but I would also appreciate the number of the guy in Montrose. Were you pleased with his work and did he finish it off as well as Kinghorn's did M4XNS? The difference in price is an ipod!!

Sheilz,
I was quite happy with the work, at the time i didn't realise that the clips would break when trying to remove the arches etc, as i'd waited 4 weeks to get the car booked in i gave him the go ahead to paint the arches on the car.
Here is a picture of the car on MINI2 (http://www.mini2.com/gallery/personal/picture10684.html)

I have not seen the work carried out on Maxines car, but, i would recommend that the arches are removed.
The paint on mine has started to be chipped away, especially at the front where the stones are chucked up against the inner arch by the front wheels, nothing i can do about that.

Sheilz, apparently TintHaus will put "helicopter film" on the newly painted trim to give it some protection from stone chips etc. Might be worth considering

I asked about the helicopter film at Tinthaus. I think its very expensive. The chap had just done the front of a porsche - £400. The wheel trims themselves are not too bad but I haven't got a body kit on. Maybe I need to do this first!
Have booked the new car into tinthaus first thing mon am. Its now at the dealers about to have his wee hat on, reg etc, service and road checks Thurs and I pick it up 2pm Fri :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Matt is 'pulling out all the stops' for me. I think thia is because I'm a pest but sometimes it pays to be a pest.
The chap at tinthaus was telling me he has just done the tints on a brg conversion job - who could that be???????? I've gone for the medium ones as well:D:D:D:D:D

I work just round the corner from Tinthuas so all day I have been listening for the "dulcet" tones of a certain Aussie members BBR conversions exhaust - but I havent heard it yet. I might nip round in a mo, and see if its still there.

When I was in the dealers yesterday afternoon Matt was looking very stressed and muttering to himself - now I know why he must have been on the phone to you :D

I'm not sure about all the paint job places or the quotes .... but ,Maxine's Grey S M4NXS looked a very very good job Shielz ..the proof of the pudding etc always seems a good rule of thumb ?

I'm thinking that it may actually work out just a little bit more expensive to have a body kit put on. By the time the paint job and then the 'helicopter film' is put on it could work out at almost a grand. Excuse my ignorance on this coz I dont know if there is any black bits left when a kit is added :I
I had my nose trapped in JC's perimeter fence tonight, me and Leanne who is also expecting to collect a leccy blue cooper tomorrow. Anyway, I dont think I like the saltire with this shade of blue. I'm hoping it will grow on me but to me it just didn't look right. Question here for Julz, is your saltire the standard colour of blue or did you get it done in a shade that would look good on your car? I saw the pics in the magazine and I thought it looked really nice. I think I need to put saltires on the mirrors to take away the whiteness. Sorry I'm maybe not making much sense!

Yes, that was me! I had my car in at TintHaus last Wednesday to get the front windows tinted to match the back but not sure if they are legal or not - I hope Scott at TintHaus didnt take my car around the block a few times for a spin and thats why you heard my car Martin! Scott said Sheilz had booked in the day previous...well impressed with the finish and service at TintHaus tho :)
