i had to stick my mini cooper 1.6 d in to have some warenty work done in return i got a clubman d for a few days its also a 1.6 d why is it so much faster?
my car is a 57 plate it is a 61 plate but the difrenct is amazeing i think the main difrence im noticeing that i will fix by binning my run flats is the handleing.
It is so much quicker off the mark and keener to get on boost compaird to my mini. i will never have any thing but a diesel so much torque from that little motor.

i would also love to find out if any one could tell me how do i get the overboost to work on my car? i have been told that it does have it by the garage when i bought it but not sure how it works.

I would like an SD next, a bit more power but cheaper to tax and better MPG etc. There seems to be a difference with the new Diesel plant with regards to lower MPG to that of say your Cooper D.

I’d reset the MPG and see what its like to your own. They say you could chuck the older D around and it will still get great fuel return, chuck the new unit and your mid to low 50’s…

Seem like you like the new engine if you think it got more get up and go.
Is it quieter on tic over?

Isn't the 'Overboost' automatically activated? There's only one way to get it to kick in and that's by (I presume) flooring it! I know in the S it boosts for so many seconds, i.e. in an overtaking situation.

not sure about tick over but new one i have till today eats the fuel it cost me £25 in fuel to go 70 miles but i was caining it i was seeing the mpg down to around 27.
im not sure about the over boost that is why im asking when over takeing i have not noticed it kicking in mabe its not much of a boost.

I work that your getting close to 18 MPG if your getting 70 miles to your £25...Your either caining it to the extreame or that D is fecked....? Are you just sitting wheel spinning it for 30 mins before you go any place ;)

I used to think buying ex demo/ex service car was a good idea but I am never going to do it again if they get treated so hard!

Awww yeh lets face it some one gives you a car to play with while your one is getting a seeing to its your duty to cain it see what like it is and i can say that if i need a car that size next time i get one then it will be a clubman but with the sd its a very sorted wee car.

I do think that there is some thing wrong with my car that 1.6 clubman has the same hp as mine and is heavyer but is so much more ready and imidiate faster to get up there too my 1.6 coop d now feels very slow and slugish

The horsepower is the same but the new diesel engine has more torque - 270nm (older Cooper D has 240nm) which may explain why it feels quicker.
Most reviews I've read say the newer Cooper D feels much quicker

pretty sure your car would have the peugeot sourced HDI engine while the newer clubman would have the compact N47 based engine. the power delivery is poles apart and the N47 is a much better engine

I may be an "old fart" but I don't agree with "canning" a car that someone has loaned to me, albeit a large dealership. I had a new company car every 2 years, for over 30 years and I always treated it like it was my own.
Just my opinion......

I agree, someone will own that car one day.

I also don't like the idea that his car is getting a "seeing to" 🙊

Isn't this thread a year old? In which case by this time the car will be in the hands of an unsuspecting (unless they read this) 'proud owner' in the Fort William area... :hand:
Or am I having another one of my 'ELF Moments'? :idunno:

Forget your CT200, try the 'ELF 1962' :thumbs up: Shhhhhhhh! indeed...

...and I agree with you too. That's the main reason I didn't point out it was an old thread.

Aye Right...
At least I wasn't imagining things - apart from the Kylie bit :hand:

On a more serious point, what would actually worry me more are the tales you sometimes hear of employees having a wee unofficial 'joy ride' in your motor while it's supposed to be safe at the dealer or garage for some work, which can sometimes end up in tears - or in a hedge :frown: So it can cut both ways.

Easy way to confirm that, take a pic of your mileage before you stick it in to the garage.
I've done it out of curiosity when I go offshore, just to check my mother's actually driving the car while I'm away!

I always check my mileage when putting my car in for a service

I now check my mileage as my brand-new Coupe done 80 miles in 2 days of the garage having it..... I was NOT happy. I also heard one of the BMW employees wheels spin a customers in the wash bay Area! Yet another reason not to let them wash my car...

As for "canning" I am the same, I treat it with care as its not mines plus I've already wrote off a brand-new courtesy car... Someone hit me whilst parked :( however I will say that BMW don't care, my boyfriend test drove a BMW 1M(£50,000 car), the M power manager took him out and told him to boot it... Needless to say the boyfriend was glad to get final build slot of the 1M rather than that specific one...

Totally agree, none of my cars have EVER gone into any garage without me taking a note of the mileage, and I supply a note of the work agreed to be carried out - to avoid confusion - and I include the mileage on the day - just so everybody knows I know!

This is a good idea, I've never thought of doing any of those. I must be far too relaxed a person.
