Insurance recommendations, anyone?

Mr Tahra here (aka John) - it's renewal time and we were wondering who were currently offering the best deals for Mini drivers.

basically, both drivers past 30 (except Tahra's really only 21++), full NCD, Cooper S (unmodded), no claims in last two years. Car parked on street.

Any ideas? I think I get a discount on Esure and its sister First Alternative (due to working for the HBOS group) but that might not be enough to swing it.

Morethan was a great deal on my Cooper ,cheap as chips , and half the cost of some others ,I'm pushing the wrong end of 40 now and 6 bonus points on the pink paper to boot !!, I will have to see about the new S though for next month .... look online , it takes ages but worth the effort in the end

For un-modded motors try Direct Line, i'm £323 for the 330ci (£32k car :eek:)

You'll get an introductory 10 per cent off online, plus, 25 per cent off house insurance ;) so, if you combine the two it's a great deal

So ....thats £180 for a £18 k car then :question::p...the old 10% intro is a good offer , most seem to offer it and good if you can be bothered jumping ship all the time ....its all money off in the end !

Check out elephant.co.uk - online quoter - at the beginning when they ask you for your best quote so far put in an amount you want to pay rather than the actual best quote you have received and you'll find, when you get the quote at the end, it will be a bit less than the "best quote" amount you entered. I tested their system a few times using different "best quote" amounts but keeping my details/car etc the same and the quote always came in/changed to what was less than the "best quote" I had entered at the beginning. Apart from this, I have always been happy with their service and being an internet only insurer they are cheaper than most on market today...with or without the best quote tip! Hope this helps!

John/Tahra - just renewed my insurance for an unmodded S chilli and after going round all the houses ended up back with my previous insurers - Priviledge (RBOS Group) circa £500 for fully comp plus protected NCB, courtesy car, legal ins, 6yrs NCB and 29yrs young with business use. Everyone else was £600+

Yup, confused came back telling me that no-one was willing to insure the large increase in power on my car as I'm still under young persons insurance:I, but Adrian Flux insured me no problem!!:clown:

Thanks, folks, that's great to be starting with. I always hate arranging car insurance - it's always depressing, so maybe someone will 'quote me happy'... hmmmm...

Also need to insure the tank 3PFT with PNCD as well. P reg Rav 4, 2L petrol, surely that can't be too pricy to insure?

I use Direct line for full comp on my Cooper as the discounts Alan mentioned give me an unbeatable price. (alway requote on the website each year rather than accept the renewal as it's cheaper)
I use Comfused.com for the 3PTF on my Rover Mini - it gives a good range of very reasonable quotes and does all the hard work for you.

TESCO ALL THE WAY JOHN!!! I was £100 CHEAPER WITH TESCO THAN ANYONE I COULD FIND!! Although I am 22 and driving a cooper, I got a nice cheap deal! However, when you start adding drivers to the policy, no matter how experienced, the price skyrockets. It did for me anyway. I added my Dad ok, but I wanted to add my Mum also, 30 yrs + driving exp, full NCD etc and they still wanted £50 extra. However, as your older than me with NCD etc, you will be treated differently!

Go get an online quote anyway. www.tesco.com select insurance/motor. Remember to swith off any firewall software as this will block the tesco online quote pages. If you do it online you get 10% discount.

Cant complain, and they were the cheapest too!

some insurers will only be quoting for a basic car (sombody on here told me that)

Try out the money supermarket website then go to the car insurance link. You get to check loads of insurance sites straight away and only have to enter your details just the once. Heres the address www.moneysupermarket.com. Will save you loads a time on the web and let you get back to writing more important messages on this site.

PS. If you have plenty of no claims try esure. This was the best for me this year. :)

Tesco, £720 with additional driver. 2002 cooper, chilli pack. Not bad as I'm 22 and it's my first insurance policy, so although I've been driving for 5 years, I have no NCD, so to an insurance company, I'm a new driver.

Thats fully comp, with protection, replacement car and a heap of extra stuff.

Did a little online investigations for Car Insurance and found that esure were still the best, phoned them to confirm and correct some things on their renewal letter.

Reduced the mileage from 9500 to 7000 PA. (I have done 11000 in 2 years) (Saved £9 a year)

I also reiterated that the car has factory option packs fitted (Chili Pack, aircon etc) - they assured me they are covered. I wanted to check because Admiral and Elephant both charge you extra for those packs but don't actually cover them if your car is written off! eSure definitely will replace like with like.

I advised then of the Cooper S skirts that I fitted - A lot of insurance companies will not even give you a quote for the car if any non factory 'modifications' are fitted - they have agreed with their underwriter that they can still insure me with those, because of my low risk age and good driving record - They have loaded the policy slightly to cover all of the above but only a few pounds, so I am happy that everything is as it should be and we are fully covered.

Total £210 for MC with Chili etc with full protected 8 years NCD

That includes motoring legal protection which was £18.50 , vol accidental damage excess £100

I wish - my insurance cost £1400 (ouch!) through specialist modified car insurer because of BBR kit and thats with 60% no claims discount - it hurts the pocket a bit but the enjoyment I get from my car is make its worth it as does the piece of mind knowing my insurer will cover me for all modifications.

Wow - that is good! I did have difficulty finding an insurer to cover me and Footman James were the cheapest (hightest quote £3.2K!!!:eek:) My age and Australian drivers licence worked against me and my no claims discount was being used on Z4..I expect next years premium to be lower - but that wouldnt be hard. I'll look into Hill House Hammond - cheers for the tip :) I'd love 240BBR but I'd never get insured!

Nenah, have you tried Adrian FLux?? My re-quote for this year is £890 with all my mods covered, and I'm still on young persons insurance!:eek: I'm still phoning round to see if I can get a better deal though!!;):D

we pay £252 through Direct Line for our Cooper, it is standard and we both have 7 years NCD with no convictions. No matter what car we have Direct Line always seems to be the cheapest for us.

Yes, I called them too but they were £200 more expensive than James Footman. JF have given me an complementary 60% NCD which will come into effect for next year's policy - so premium should drop down to around £600-£700 mark or lower once my international licence is transferred to full UK. If I cancel the policy I'll have to pay a charge so I'll sit tight for next 8 months and reassess next year. Insurance is such a neccesary evil! :evil:

Does anyone know if you do a performance driving course/skid pan/defensive driving course whether this will reduce premium for modified car?:)
