Airshow time again!
Possibly one of the last ones at RAF Leuchars. and that gives me the sad :(

Anyone else from NMS going?

Red Arrows are confirmed (albeit in an 8 plane formation after the sad loss of Red 4 Pilot Jon Egging last month:()
Vulcan Confirmed!:thumbs up::thumbs up::thumbs up::thumbs up::thumbs up: Bring the noise!!
Catalina Confirmed!
Battle of Britian flight confirmed (possibly Dakota instead of Lanc tho..)

Can't flippin' wait! Been every year since I was about 4 (when it's been open :D)

I will be there as always too :thumbs up: I feel that it's very much starting to get over priced when you compare it to somewhere like Farnborough, or even some in Europe, but there is something special about Leuchars. I, like you, have been to Leuchars pretty much every year since I was about 6, and have noticed that since the USAF stopped flying in the displays after 9/11, there is not as much there. But never the less, when the first Tornado goes up at 10am and you hear and feel the rumble in your chest and the hair on the back of your neck stands up, all that goes out the window and the feeling of being 6 all over again kicks in! Even with all the noise though, there is nothing much better sounding than the sound of the Merlin engine in the spitfire...so sweet!

Since it has been decided to shut the airbase, and turn it into a staging post for the army returning to the uk (- about 2000 troops), leaving us with only one airbase in the whole of Scotland...
Leuchars is being stood down over the next 3 years or so, and the squadrons moved. so I can't imagine there'sll be many Airshows left. :frown::sad:

And no more Tornadoes or Typhoons flying about round our way :(

as has been said about it being overpriced thats pretty much what put me off from taking the family up to see it (by the time we had got there paid to get in and bought something to eat and drink it would cost in excess of 100 pounds for us ) not a cheap day out...

Nice pics Euan! I decided to only shoot some static stuff as I couldn't be bothered with the action shots, and just wanted to sit back, and enjoy it, without looking through a lens. Will get round to up-loading my static stuff at somepoint.

Sorry I missed this - I must get more organised next year. Would've been great to see and hear the mighty Vulcan:shut up:Reminds me of seeing one at Prestwick Airshow(s) when I was a kid - that memory goes hand in hand with the Lightning (English Electric, not P38) and its awesome take off where it would go along the runway and almost immediately go vertical and disappear into the clouds! Poignant display from our fantastic Red Arrows - none finer IMO :yes nod:

Couldn't agree more Euan. Never seen a lightning fly, but from what my old man says, it was a demon. As for the red arrows, after seeing them display a few hours after the french team, they really at terrific. So much crisper and polished as a routine. I remember the Frecci Tricolouri (spelling, no idea, but the italian team) from a good few years ago and they were pretty good too.

Ach, don't worry.. I remember seeing the Lighting displaying a few times when I was a nipper too ;)
Flippin' awesome it was too. Have a wee look on Youtube for clips from the Cold War Jets show.. they're not so much flying... but powered up runs down the runway :cool::cool:

I also remember one year on the Train over from Dundee getting buzzed by the Mosquito that went round the shows... twin Merlins...mmmmm... I think I better go for a lie down in the dark... :hand::p

Have you seen the video on Youtube (possibly from the same group your talking about) of the Lightning setting off heaps of car alarms? I doubt it would set off a MINI alarm, I've washed my car when its been locked without realising, and not even a chirp from it...doesn't fill me with confidence.

Yes Neil but you are presumably using a lams wool wash mit and washing with TLC.
