I've been watching a lot of people "Brad hunting" in George Square with dslrs sporting the kit 18-55mm lenses and wondered just what sort of shot they were getting, so I thought I'd do a little test...

Here's the same shot taken using a Nikon D700 and 300mm f/2.8 with a 2 x teleconverter....

and a Panasonic GF1 (20mm, the equiv of 28-30mm on the kit lens likes of a Canon 550/60/ Nikon D90/D300 etc or 40mm on my D700)

For reference the "Reed's Hardware " truck is in the centre of the GF1 shot.....

Now you know why pro togs use big lenses

Thats a cool shot. You've even managed to catch it mid-action with the glass flying out the rear window of that car.

Hand held, or tripod?

Just to add if anyone is in Glasgow you can get right near all the Cars and stuff and fire truck, even a crash set up......friend just sent great pics with his wee ones. You can almost touch them.
