I have been thinking about this for a while even tried it unsuccessfully a couple of times.

I am referring to the gloss ring in the centre of the airbag on the steering wheel.

I tried wrapping it on the car and it really was not good enough so i though i need to get the airbag off and see if i can remove the ring then try wrapping it.

Now the brave part. Not really knowing if the ring came off i went ahead knowing that a new airbag maybe the outcome.

Anyway success the ring does come off with some prising.

Decided to spray it too

Just need to wait now till the paint is hard enough to put back on.

Really pleased with how its turned out.

Right before i start this is not as easy as i though. Infact.removing it was the really easy bit the ring is not designed to be removed then put back on.

Anyway sometime later and a few sweary words lol i got it back on.

I do not recommend anyone do this btw, but it dkes look awesome.

Before.

Fine work buddy! Looks amazing! I've always been tempted to prise mine out, but never had the courage to actually do it, but after you've said it's a pain in the behind to get back in, may just put up with it being silver for now :D

Neil seriously even knowing what I know now I would have left it. Cheers though really happy with the end result. I think an easier option is to cover the inside of the car and painting it in situ.

Cheers Colin & Alan.

Ha ha, just go for the classic firework in a bucket of paint, light the fuse and close the door...now observe!

Greig, on looking at the pics in the first post, showing the rear of the wee ring, it looks like there are about 18 clips holding the ring in.

I can't help thinking, something that size should only need 4 or 5 clips at most holding it in place - unless there's a very good reason indeed why it shouldn't be dislodged in the first place.

So, I'm sort of saying, could there be any safety issue with removing this ring? 'Specially taking into account it surrounds the bit of the steering wheel which blows up when the air bag deploys.

Looks mint, btw. Huge improvement on stock. Always wondered why when you spec "chrome line interior", they still leave a brushed silver plastic look on the wheel.

Cheers andy, there are alot of little pegs or legs right round I think because the ring is very soft and flexible when It comes off. I mean it went back on the same way it came off, infact it comes back off easier than it did the first time so I can't see it being an issue. Also it is a cosmetic thing, which becomes more obvious when you take it off.

Anyway it's all back together no probs, however certainly wouldn't recommend to others due to the difficulty getting it back on.

Agreed about the colour of it as you say it should have been black or even chrome.
